We were lucky to catch up with Madelinekarita Fleming recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Madelinekarita , so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
I was born with it. I was the little kid that figured out how to open doors early, who built a ramp to ride her bike off the front porch , who snuck outside in the dark to ghost hunt. Fear was never a thing for me. I always thought maybe in another life I was a Genghis Khan afraid of nothing and no one
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
At this point its easier to figure out what I dont do. I have been a Ivy Leaguer , model ,actress,television host, public speaker, author, entrepreneur , boxer, and currently Award winning Filmmaker and Movie Star. Not bad for a kid born in the ghetto that wasn’t supposed to make it. I feel like my life is a Middle finger to a society where being born a black woman means being born to be statistic. But so far Ive beaten all the odds.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Belief in yourself and you’re abilities Lose the distractions, people ,vices, whatever is blocking your path.
Last but most importantly be mindful of the company you keep on this journey the people who derailed me and secretly hated me the most were lovers and friends. If at any point you catch the feeling they don’t like you its real and create space or just end the connection right then and there.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
People who say “I dont want to make money from my art ” are not the people 4 me. I live a great life from my art . Im looking other artists that have dedicated their lives to their craft and do it successfully and bringing that same energy to our projects. No conservatives we either going big ,going hard ,,there is no such thing as over the top when Im looking for other collaborators.
