We recently connected with Madelynn Mutter and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Madelynn, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My parents have taught me everything I know about hard work. Coming from a family of small business owners, I have watched them put in endless hours of work into their business. They have shown and taught me to have a bit of ‘Grit’ in my life, when a job comes across my path to pull up my sleeves and get to work. I have found myself working on my paintings late into the night and waking up in the early morning hours. This has especially paid off since having three small children in the last five years. I have been working as a professional artist for four years, and painting even though life is busy has brought me places I did not think were possible for a young mother.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a professional artist, my work focuses on how people in rural America live & work. My oil paintings often feature cattle, horses, rodeos, and scenes you would often find in any rural community. Growing up surrounded by small family-run farms & ranches inspired me to capture the simple beauty of hard work, ranching, and rodeo. I often hear how my work brings a sense of pride to the viewer, reminds them of their childhoods, or inspires them to learn about a way of life that has been lost to modern living.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
Being a young mother is the most fulfilling and yet the most taxing job I have ever worked. I am always a mother before I am an artist, and finding time to sit down and work is challenging. Thankfully my husband is my biggest supporter. We work as a team to make sure I have time to pursue my dream with he talents I have been blessed with. Life is a wonderful balance of toddler chaos, babies & painting.
