Meet Madisen Judge

We recently connected with Madisen Judge and have shared our conversation below.

Madisen, so many exciting things to discuss, we can’t wait. Thanks for joining us and we appreciate you sharing your wisdom with our readers. So, maybe we can start by discussing optimism and where your optimism comes from?

I think that humans were made to make art. It makes me so overwhelmed with joy to remember that humans have covered the world in art for as long as we’ve existed and shared that with other humans. To make bad art, good art, any art at all is the easiest way to keep the joy of being alive lit. I love knowing that for forever humans will continue making art bad or good.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I work full time as a camp counselor and run a business with my art on the side. I started Floral Dead in 2020 when I lost my job and it’s brought me so much joy over the last four years to share my art with others. I’ve made so many friends just by meeting people at cons and markets. There have been so many times people will show off that they have my sticker or charms when we meet and it feels like being filled with sunshine. This year I launched my Sticker Club on patreon and the reactions to it have been great overall! I just launched my first ever plushie and it’s been such a joy to see people love it as much as I do.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think being able to be okay with your art being bad, learning to set aside time to actually work on your craft, and being okay with taking breaks and not growing as much as you want.

Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?

It’s been particularly difficult to navigate a full time job on top of running an art business. Having to give up weekends to table at cons and pulling late nights to get things done. Overall it’ll get done when it gets done!
