We recently connected with Madison Broussard and have shared our conversation below.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Hi, I’m Madison Broussard. I am a certified professional makeup artist and special effects artist. I do it all from glam, bridal, special effects, bodypainting, even men’s grooming. I specialize in TV and film makeup.
I graduated and am certified from L Makeup Institute in Texas. I am a young Texas based artist. I’ve worked on films, plays, commercial shoots, and even with celebrity clients like Jay Barnett and Alycia Baumgardener.
I started taking clients while I was enrolled in makeup school and even got my first assistant special effects makeup artist role for a film in January 2025.
I now do makeup full time! I currently work at a Beauty Bar doing glam and bridal clients while continuing to work on sets and with new clients!
My goal is to expand my business, Madi FX Makeup. Grow my clientele and one day, join the Union as a special effects makeup artist and makeup artist on Hollywood movies.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three qualities and skills that have helped me and continue to help me throughout my career are listening, adapting, and my most important one for last… perseverance.
I not only listen to my clients to ensure they look exactly how they envisioned, but I also have to listen to critique as well. Stay positive to continue growing!
Working on set or at crowded gigs, comes with a lot of adapting. You have to be prepared and ready for moving locations, taking on new clients/actors, schedule changes, and so much more. But it’s all part of the fun and can add excitement.
I learned about perseverance from a young age. It’s to keep working and getting to your destination even through tough times and adversity. I am also a karate instructor, so perseverance is something I also teach my students. It can be adapted into any situation. There’s always going to be ups and downs, doubt, tiredness, but you have to remember why you’re doing this and remember how far you’ve come. You didn’t come this far just to stop now.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
It has been 1 year since I started my makeup artistry, and my biggest area of growth has been communication. My junior and senior year of high school, I took on more leadership roles at school. I was a member of the senior council, president of the student ambassadors for both years, I even did speeches for our school. This all helped out with my public speaking as someone who is more introverted.
In my career field, I am always talking to and meeting new people. Good communication and positivity is big for Madi FX Makeup.
I’d say that I have finally perfected my email pitch to companies and directors! Pitching myself and my brand is actually how I got my first movie gig! I often reach out and network with other creatives, making memorable and meaningful connections that help us both grow in the industry.
