We were lucky to catch up with Madison Howell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Madison with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I learned my work ethic from watching my parents work. My parents taught me how to be hard workers by going to work everyday unless it is for something important because they know that going to work everyday brings food to our table, a roof over our heads and clothes on our bodies. My parents taught me good customer service skills by showing me what it is like to be a good employee, so I want my customers to feel the same way that my parents make people feel when we go places. When I interact with my customers, it is important to greet them, be energetic, smile, stand up when I am talking to them, give information on my products, answer their questions, give feedback and most of all say, “Thank you!” When we are working to make the juices, it is important that we wash our hands, sterilize materials, and make sure that we are creating juice that tastes delicious and taste the same each time we make it. Our customers have their favorite juices so its important that they taste good!
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
The most special thing about being the owner of the Maddy’s Juice Bar brand is, that it’s different from what you buy at the stores. In the stores, there’s pop and juice but those have artificial flavors, chemicals, dyes and preservatives. My juices are different because they are made out of fresh fruit and vegetables, the color comes from the actual ingredients and we make them fresh so there is no need for preservatives! I feel special when people try my juices and love them and I like to see repeat customers; I try to remember them all! The most exciting thing about Maddy’s Juice Bar is watching it grow each time we create a new juice flavor.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back the three things I would say that helped me on my journey are attending vendor shows to reach more customers, adding more flavors so people have a variety to choose from and learning how to speak in public; I don’t get the butterflies as much anymore from talking to so many people!
How would you describe your ideal client?
My ideal client would be someone who is open to trying new things, likes a variety of flavors, doesn’t have any allergies, and who is all around excited to try my juice!
