We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Madison Rogenski. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Madison below.
Madison, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience stems from a long line of powerful men and women before me. My family has taught me the true meaning of resilience by example. My mother found her calling in horseback riding, and rose her way up the ranks throughout her life. A series of ups and downs, and peaks and valleys showed themselves on her journey. With each setback my mother would shine even brighter. My Grandma Shirley was one of the most influential women in my life. She bedazzled every room she entered with her light, and every word she spoke came out as smooth as honey. My Father is a hard working man, and through the years I watched his patience pay off. To get back up after falling is a principle rule in horseback riding. If you do not get back onto your horse and try again, the progress you’ve made is now disrupted. Such is life, as we must try again over and over. I love the beach, and as a child I’d let the waves hit me and knock me over. I found joy in getting back up, to be knocked down again, and to get back up again. In my own mind I ask myself, what happened to the wonder of getting back up? There is beauty in the darkness, and in the light. My resilience comes from watching those I love most get back up, time and time again. They’ve showed me how, and so when it comes time to pick myself up off the pavement, I always do.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I make social content for the world to enjoy. My specialties are home decor, skincare, general lifestyle, mental health, self care, and self love. My rise to popularity is widely due to my viral series Boujee on a Budget, where I showcase my favorite budget friendly finds at my favorite stores. Boujee on a Budget has many sub categories that I love to play into such as cooking recipes, DIY ideas, thrifting, skincare, and makeup. My love of Dollar Tree and all things budget friendly comes from my Mother and my Grandma Shirley. My Mother would decorate our home with Dollar Tree tinsel, and trinkets every season. On Black Friday, I would go out shopping with my Grandma Shirley looking for the best deals. Now I showcase my own home to the world, showing how I choose to decorate and live my life. In the summer of 2023, my husband took his own life. I shine as a beacon of light and hope for other grieving widows to relate to. I believe that loss is a part of life, and that the subject should not be overshadowed. I would guess every single person on Earth will experience loss in some form at some point in their life. I am known for speaking candidly about my loss and grief journey since losing my husband. My main purpose is to inspire others, in whatever way that means for them.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Three impactful qualities, and skills relevant to my journey widely include what I learned while serving in the United States Air Force. The Air Force taught me discipline, consistency, punctuality, and accountability. When you run your own business or brand, you have to create your own motivation. That in itself to me is a skill that one must acquire, and keep throughout their own journey. Consistency to me means never quitting. I see so many creators quit, or face burnout because they are focused on monetization instead of their art. The way I see it is that monetization will always come with good art, so go create good art. The loss of my husband has taught me to focus on 1 thing at a time, a useful skill in business. Another skill that I have is that I love to write. This allows me to always respond to things in a tactful manner. My relentlessness has gotten me to this point. There is something inside of me that has always convinced myself to keep going despite the odds.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My Mother has been the most helpful in overcoming challenges, and finding the tools needed to be successful. By watching her success, I have gained the tools needed to be successful myself. My mother is a business woman, and she has the mind of a falcon. She carries this inquisitive, intelligent, powerful energy such as an octopus. My Mother taught me how to problem solve, critically think, and innovate. She showed me how through her own example. She ran a brilliant horse boarding facility, and she is also a distinguished, decorated horseback rider. Whenever I have a question, I call my mom. Whether it is a PR related question such as, “Do you think I should say this?”. Or a question such as “What color scheme should I wear to this event?”. My mother always has the answers. She is grace, class, and beauty wrapped in a bow. I could only hope to be like her. My Mother encourages my authenticity, and supports everything that I do. I do not trust anyone more than I trust my Mom.
