MAE SEVEN, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

As MAE SEVEN, we craft songs that reflect our personal journeys. From the ups and downs of relationships to the adventures of travel, our music captures the essence of everyday life. We believe creativity thrives on exploration and challenges, so we constantly seek out new experiences, meet diverse people, and push ourselves beyond our comfort zones.

When it comes to our music production, we try to experiment with new sounds and keep growing. We stay up-to-date with the latest production techniques, explore a wide range of genres, and constantly seek out new ways to create unique sounds. Even a simple change, like trying a new synthesizer plugin, can spark a whole new wave of creativity.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

We’re a Dutch music duo comprised of brothers Styn and Winter, together releasing music as MAE SEVEN. Our journey began with a shared passion for music and has taken us on an incredible adventure. Collaborating with talented artists, producers, and engineers has been a highlight, and our recent move to the United States, has opened up a world of new opportunities.

Living and creating in Los Angeles has been an inspiring experience. The city’s unique energy and vibrant music scene constantly motivate us to push our boundaries and explore new creative avenues.

Winter, the producer of the two, brings a classical piano background allowing him to make unique compositions. His versatility allows him to create tracks across various genres, and his latest venture into house music has been particularly exciting. He’s also a seasoned DJ, having played at renowned venues in Amsterdam, New York and Los Angeles.

Styn, the singer and songwriter of the group, takes the listeners on a musical journey with his captivating melodies and lyrics.

We’re thrilled to announce the upcoming release of our latest project: “On My Way (Baby California Remix)” – a house-infused reimagining of our latest single “Baby California”. Be sure to follow us on social media (@maeseven) for updates and a sneak peek of what’s to come!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Patience, persistence, and a solid business foundation.

From the final touches on a song to the details of mixing, mastering, and even securing work visas, the music industry demands unwavering dedication and patience. Whether you’re chasing payments or booking gigs, perseverance is key. Believe in your abilities, stay focused, and set achievable goals.

Our Masters in Business Administration provides a unique advantage too. It equips us to navigate the complex business landscape of the music industry, avoiding common pitfalls that often hinder independent artists. We believe it’s essential for artists to understand the business side of their craft. Conduct thorough research, explore marketing strategies, and stay true to your authentic self.

While it’s important to listen to advice from respected figures in the industry, don’t let external opinions overshadow your own vision. Stay grounded, maintain your integrity, and create a sustainable workflow that reflects your unique artistic identity.
