Meet Maelynn Le

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maelynn Le. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maelynn below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Maelynn with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
I think for all my life I have self motivation for myself. Part of my personality and the way I was shaped today is having self motivation. I don’t need anyone to tell me how great I am all the time although it is nice to hear. I know that I accomplish great things in life and I know I will have a bright future. What helped me have self motivation throughout the years was doing taekwondo and taught me a lot about self-discipline and about my mental and physical health. Between me becoming a music education teacher and me doing food photography, I have gained a lot of self-motivation by doing taekwondo with reflects my work ethic.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Yeah so I am a food photographer and travel blogger on Instagram. At home (Bay Area), I go to different restaurants and create content whether it’s photos or short little videos, I am capable of doing that. During when I am traveling, I work with hotels to create what I like to call it a “food travel guide.” I feel like every state/country has their own food culture they want to represent to the community and I want to showcase as many restaurants out there as possible when I am there. I also showcase my hotel stays as well as I want my audience to choose the hotel I stayed at. I know that the places I stay at is one of the best based on my experience. Outside of this, I am currently a B.M in Music Education in college at San Francisco State University. This is my last semester as a bachelor student and I am so excited to announce I will be attending graduate school so I can get my teaching credential and my masters as a Music Education teacher. With this degree, I am hoping to teach middle school band as I want to share my passion for music to the next generation.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Building relationships: You want to build as many relationships with your clients as possible and talk to them in depth about the restaurant. If you show that you really care about the restaurant/business, they’re gonna keep asking you to come back and work on bigger projects with them and they might recommend you to other great businesses as well so that’s why building relationships with everyone is very crucial! It’s basically you are building a portfolio and conducting an interview at the same time.

Organization/Planning: You need to plan your content wisely and figure out what your niche is because you don’t want to go in with the wrong business if you know that’s not the niche you are looking for. Being on top of your work and content is very crucial as well as it helps you be organized and plan your content schedule and photo shoots. I also tend to have a strategy ahead of time for inspiration of what kind of photos and videos I want to do ahead of time.

Be Authentic as best as possible: I don’t think there is no way that you can showcase yourself on social media all the time because it’s very hard you just have to be as aesthetic as possible. There is no such thing as being authentic because social media can be so fake nowadays but you know, I try to be humble as best as possible and just trying to be yourself and not change just because someone else is doing something better and you want to up their game, I just think it’s ridiculous. You should not change yourself and just be the best version of yourself there’s gonna be a lot of people who don’t like you for who you are but 90% of the people on social media or are going to be your supporters and gonna back you up a lot of the time so don’t feel discouraged.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?
Just balancing everything with school and social media sometimes hard because there are some social media events that I’ve really wanted to attend that are on the same days classes. I’m trying to figure it out and I always put school first before anything else.

However; in the past, I always felt like an outsider in high school and I felt I didn’t belong to any group of friends. I remembered having a lot of stress and anxiety going to school. My transition from high school to college changed dramatically as I found more happiness in college, music, and food photography. I went from a 3.3 GPA high school graduate who took no AP classes and rarely did extra curricular activities, to graduation with a 3.93 GPA, graduated in 3 years with Summa Cum Laude, and will be attending graduate school in the Fall. My transition has dramatically changed and I couldn’t be any prouder of myself.
