MaeThePirate, thank you so much for joining us. You are such a positive person and it’s something we really admire and so we wanted to start by asking you where you think your optimism comes from?

I’d like to cite one of my favorite youtubers for a quote, “Life is short but also like terribly and insufferably long at the same time.” – Jenna Marbles. This quote speaks volumes to my generation, but also, I think about this quote a lot when I need a little pick me up! Life is short, and though it can feel very insufferably long, we have to remember that we don’t have forever, and I am extremely grateful for all the time I do have here. I admire Jenna Marbles authenticity and how true she was and is to herself and I aspire to be more like her every day.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hi, my name is MaeThePirate, and I love to compose transcribe play and mix music! I work at a recording studio so I cycle between my home studio and Bell Sound Studios, I like to write music about mental health and technology and how it affects our generation. I love to play music with friends, go out in West Hollywood, and make art! My goal is to create a community of people who feel seen and heard by the music, and also just to spread love and joy through music. I’m currently working on an album which I am planning to release within a year, and I am very excited to see where this will go. Music is meant to be shared and enjoyed, so I’m really looking forward to sharing this project with the world

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I would say the most important qualities skills, or areas of knowledge that have impacted my journey are determination, passion, and confidence! People will chalk musicians abilities up to “talent” without seeing the very hard work and effort they put into their art. Anyone can learn to sing, perform, play music as long as they have the determination, passion, and confidence. When we see big artists on stage doing their best, what we’re not seeing was every show where they flopped, or every awkward concert where they were still learning to get their feet off the ground. As long as you are determined, passionate, and confident, nothing can stop you

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’m always looking for artists to collaborate with, I’ve spent a long time honing my craft and getting mixes and production to a place where I’m comfortable with it, and I’d love to work with other artists who want to get that extra push to get their songs in the place where they want. I play piano and cello so I’d love to collaborate with other musicians who play different instruments, and overall just get to know people and have a good time writing and working on music together
