Meet Maggie Moak

We were lucky to catch up with Maggie Moak recently and have shared our conversation below.

Maggie, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

In a world that constantly demands availability it can be extremely challenging to slow down and emerge into our own creativity. We need creative minds to keep the world spinning and for me, that means letting go of what society demands of us and tuning into the art of being present in the moment and creating with my hands.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a small business Indie Yarn Dyer. I hand dye luxurious wool fibers and turn them into beautiful skeins of yarn for all fiber artists. I use color inspiration based off of pop culture, the colorful scenes around me or just colors I find flow great together. I am heavily involved in the Knitting and Crochet fiber arts communities. I have been knitting and crocheting for 10+ years and it has brought so much joy and meditative benefits. Knitting and crocheting has been around for centuries and seeing modern day fiber arts come back even stronger and more popular is so exciting! You can find my hand dyed yarns online at Stevie Yarn Co!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I think studying fibers and how they are all beneficial to different projects and type of fiber art has been a great source of knowledge for becoming a yarn dyer! If you are early in your journey of fiber arts my biggest piece of advice is to not think about it too hard and just create with your heart.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The most impactful thing my parents have ever done for me is to allow me to be my most authentic self and support any endeavor I dreamed of.
