Meet Maggie Yu

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Maggie Yu a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Maggie, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

being a functional medicine maverick for the past 18 years means I’m always the only one in the room w/ the perspective of a successful family medicine md that had to go outside the box in every way including starting the first successful online platform for turning around autoimmunity and other impossible to deal w/ chronic diseases like POTS, MCAS, Dysautonomia….so I’ve always been against the grain in conventional medicine and now in many ways against the grain of how functional medicine(now that it exists) in their approach to these chronic diseases. I love being the only one in many rooms and it’s exciting.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a family practice and certified functional medicine physician who graduated from UCLA School of Medicine and has been practicing for over 25 years. An author, mother, teacher, speaker, and thought leader,

After developing mystery autoimmune symptoms postpartum and being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease at 36, I suffered from a range of chronic conditions, including fibromyalgia, early menopause, Hashimoto’s, chronic pain, depression, TMJ, and Mixed Connective Tissue Disorder. Battling my own debilitating health challenges, I recognized the limitations of conventional medicine. This profound personal experience became the catalyst for a career-altering deep dive into alternative methods of healing.

I developed my transformative approach, which combines the best of medical knowledge with holistic care. I created the Transform Protocol, an online autoimmune and chronic disease program that comprehensively addresses the root cause and triggers of disease. This protocol has not only transformed my life but has also proven to be a beacon of hope for countless others suffering from similar afflictions. It goes beyond treating symptoms and targeting the root causes of health challenges to bring about lasting change.

Over the past few decades, I have provided education and training on topics related to longevity and reversing chronic diseases. I have helped thousands of patients overcome chronic symptoms such as pain, fatigue, POTS, MCAS, autoimmune conditions, hormone imbalances, irritable bowel, depression, anxiety, brain fog, mental health conditions, and many more.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

3 wisdom questions or statemets

Always ask, what’s the opportunity here
Always ask, what else does this mean?
Always say, of course I can

Bonus: Why not me?

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?

A lack of imagination, curiosity, or certainty for people and medical providers around complex chronic health issues:

-social media platform to educate, expand, question
– a book to challenge conventional medicine
– development of a supplement line based around science-backed wellness, not an influence-backed pocketbook
-challenging questions and education for everyone who comes into my world, growth first, then results come. if you’re not willing to grow, you won’t get results is my motto. This is a very challenging pattern that is interrupting the healthcare or wellness industry.

i would say we’re about personal growth first, as the body follows the mind – but nobody wants to hear this. So I’d say I’d have to disguise myself and our brand as a medical/supplement company to really help people focus on personal growth first.
