Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maho Tachibana. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am MAHO TACHIBANA, a Japanese actress. After working in Japan, I moved to Hollywood to take on new challenges in the global film industry. Overcoming language and cultural barriers in a foreign land, I have been auditioning and securing roles in films and TV dramas. Recently, I had the honor of starring in projects recognized at international film festivals, and my work has been featured not only in the U.S. but also in Korean and French media.
My Mission as an Actress
As an actress, I strive to be “a source of hope for the world.” Throughout my life, I have faced various hardships, and I draw upon those experiences to bring depth and authenticity to my performances. I believe that portraying characters who persevere through adversity can inspire and empower audiences worldwide.
My Art and Brand
What I value most is “delivering light through acting.” I aim to tell stories that transform pain and sorrow into hope, which is why I focus on creating characters with emotional depth and authenticity.
Additionally, my Japanese heritage is one of my strengths. My skills in traditional Japanese dance and karate set me apart and allow me to bring something unique to my performances. Recently, at an event in Korea, I had the opportunity to perform in a traditional kimono, sharing the beauty of Japanese culture with a global audience.
Upcoming Projects and New Challenges
I am currently involved in several film projects, including ones that are gaining international attention. As I continue my journey, I am committed to taking on even more ambitious projects with my ultimate goal of winning an Academy Award.
A Message to the Readers
I truly believe that “it is never too late to chase your dreams.” Taking that first step may be scary, but beyond it lies a world of new possibilities. If my journey can inspire even one person to keep moving forward, that would mean everything to me. I will continue to pour my heart into acting and strive to touch as many people as possible through my work—so please keep supporting me!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, I believe the three most influential qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge have been self-confidence, acting technique, and cultural understanding.
1. Self-confidence: Believing in yourself is the most important thing for success. In the beginning, I struggled with setbacks and failures, often unable to see them as temporary obstacles. But over time, I learned that trusting in my strengths and passion, and facing challenges with a positive attitude, is essential. To develop self-confidence, it’s helpful to regularly reflect on your growth and celebrate even the small successes along the way.
2. Acting technique: For me, acting is a skill that needs continuous refinement, and it’s one of the most crucial elements. Learning new techniques and methods, and applying them, deepened my understanding of characters and allowed me to express a wider range of emotions. To improve acting skills, it’s important to take lessons regularly, attend workshops, and gain hands-on experience through real-world projects.
3. Cultural understanding: Coming to Hollywood and working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, I found this skill to be incredibly valuable. Being able to effectively communicate and empathize with people from different backgrounds made a huge difference. To develop cultural understanding, it’s important to take an active interest in other cultures, learn about them, and engage with people from different walks of life.
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
I believe this job is about constantly fighting while feeling overwhelmed. I am always operating outside of my comfort zone. In my view, if the energy of the environment is higher than my own, I feel nervous or overwhelmed. Therefore, before a performance, it’s important to stand in the space and harmonize with the energy of the environment. I sit on the set, touch the props, and align myself with the surroundings. For long lines I’m not used to, I practice them repeatedly to get familiar. I prepare so that I can say them smoothly, even if an earthquake happens. When something becomes familiar, there’s no tension.
Moreover, I consciously try to spend time in places that make me nervous so that they become my comfort zone. If there’s an opportunity to perform in front of others, I take the initiative to do it. While it’s important to maintain myself when feeling overwhelmed, more than anything, I am working hard to become a presence that dominates in front of the camera.
