Meet Mahsa Darabi

We recently connected with Mahsa Darabi and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Mahsa with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

An immigrant to a new land, my mother overcame the initial hurdles of a language barrier and the responsibility of raising four children to build an extraordinary life. Starting from scratch, she established a teaching business that has positively impacted hundreds of families for over three decades. Beyond her professional success, her deep commitment to community shines through her constant willingness to assist those in need, particularly immigrants and refugees embarking on their own journeys. She never gives up.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My work centers around creating and sharing nourishing experiences. As the founder of MAHSA CHAI®, I craft a caffeine-free, adaptogenic chai blend born from a personal ritual that blossomed into a way to connect and offer well-being. The most exciting part is seeing how it brings people together, a symbol of empowerment, especially with the name “Mahsa” now echoing the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement I actively support.

Beyond MAHSA CHAI®, I also founded The Moody Persian, a platform sharing food, culture, and connection, aiming to create a sense of belonging through shared meals and stories.

What’s special about both is the strong, organic community built on transparency and a deep desire for raw connection.

Excitingly, my short documentary film, Mahsa (or, the Girl That Ate Her Way Home), exploring finding roots through food, will be released this summer.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Raw vulnerability: I’ve laid my “why” bare through personal stories. It hasn’t always been a walk in the park – the oversharing hangover is real! The result? genuine connection which makes all the awkward moments well worth it.

2. Building community: I came to the U.S. when I was 7 years old and had to fight to belong. I’ll never forget the people who said yes, the ones who made me feel like a part of something greater. I have made it my mission to pay it forward and build a community that is bold and makes room for all.

3. Unbreakable Resilience: My mother, my absolute hero, taught me that resilience isn’t just about bouncing back; it’s about paving your road when the map doesn’t fit.

My advice? Trust your gut with wild abandon. Your intuition is your most potent compass.

Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?

As a mother navigating the beautiful chaos of raising three daughters, the ‘am I doing this right?’ question is a constant hum. There’s no manual, and so much is trial and error. But the absolute pillar, the thing I breathe in every day, is what my parents gave me: unwavering belief. They were my ride-or-die cheerleaders, always pushing me with a simple, “why not you?”. That’s the legacy I’m building for my girls, and I see the fire it ignites in their confidence. This world throws enough punches, especially with the endless noise of social media and unsolicited opinions. Home has to be their absolute sanctuary, the one place they can be unapologetically themselves
