We recently connected with Mai Vang and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Mai with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My strong work ethic is deeply rooted in the example set by my parents. Coming from immigrant parents who initially spoke only their native language, I witnessed firsthand their relentless pursuit of success. Through their perseverance, they became accomplished real estate investors and dedicated providers for myself and my siblings. Their journey serves as a profound inspiration, shaping my approach to work and life with a steadfast commitment to excellence and determination.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My name is Mai Vang, and I am the proud owner of Mai Business Inc. While my initial dream of launching a lipstick line didn’t materialize, my journey led me to an unexpected but fulfilling path in the modeling industry. In April 2022, I embarked on my modeling career, and by September of the same year, Mai Business Inc was born.
Driven by a passion to support aspiring models, my company offers comprehensive mentorship programs on navigating the fashion industry, effective self-marketing strategies, and the creation of professional comp cards, both digital and physical. From walking the runway in fashion shows to coordinating events, and becoming a talent scout, my transition from model to entrepreneur has been both daunting and exhilarating.
At Mai Business Inc, I specialize in crafting compelling comp cards, digital portfolios, and website design services tailored to the needs of models and artists. Collaborating with other businesses has been a highlight of my journey, facilitating connections with local talents and entrepreneurs near and far.
Among our upcoming events, the Minne Grammy Awards, a “Celemony” celebrating local designers, models, and artists, stands out. Teaming up with LaShonda Anderson of Franchise Box, we aim to create an unforgettable experience for our community. Additionally, I am excited to announce a fashion show in Panama City Beach, Florida, in collaboration with Evolve Fashions By Coco and the esteemed Tephanie Delaney for the Gulf Coast Small Business Expo. Stay tuned for our special event planned in Charlotte, NC, this July—it’s an occasion you won’t want to miss. Join us on this remarkable journey of creativity, collaboration, and empowerment.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Reflecting on my journey, three qualities have profoundly shaped my path to success. Foremost among them is the unwavering commitment to maintaining a positive mindset, even amidst adversity. It’s about persevering through challenges and refusing to succumb to doubt or setbacks. I firmly believe in the guiding hand of Providence, trusting that what is meant for me will come to fruition with divine guidance.
Next, discipline and determination stand as pillars of my journey. Once I embark on a task, I see it through to completion with steadfast resolve, unless divine intervention redirects my course. This unwavering dedication fuels my progress and ensures that I stay the course, no matter the obstacles.
Lastly, my ability to absorb and apply knowledge has been instrumental in my business and career endeavors. I possess a keen aptitude for learning, assimilating information effectively, and putting it into practice. Whether it’s mastering new concepts or refining existing skills, I leverage my capacity to absorb and apply knowledge to propel my professional growth.
In essence, these three qualities—positivity, discipline, and adaptability—have been the cornerstones of my journey, guiding me towards success and fulfillment in both business and life.
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The primary challenge I’m currently navigating is the economic upturn affecting my small business. Securing funding and creating space for expansion are pressing needs. While recognizing the importance of building a team, I’m currently managing all aspects of my business solo. My goal is to find reliable partners who share my vision and ambitions.
To address this challenge, I’m actively networking and seeking collaboration with like-minded individuals. Additionally, I’m exploring grant opportunities to support the expansion and development of my business. Through strategic partnerships and financial resources, I’m working towards overcoming obstacles and fostering sustainable growth for my venture.
