Meet Makayla Isley

We recently connected with Makayla Isley and have shared our conversation below.

Makayla, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I definitely get it from my parents. I work hard because of they’re support and the knowledge they gave me to keep my work ethic strong.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am a crochet/knitter artist. I make amigurimi (plushies), accessories, such as pouches, hair clips, bags, and etc., and clothing. I always love seeing the outcome whether they don’t come out looking nice or the ones where it’s my best work. Lately my favorite thing I’ve been crocheting are character pieces. They allow me to work on skills that I may lack or ones that I excel in them. I have been working on releasing my own logo plushies so I hope to get to show everyone them soon!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

1. Definitely getting better at social media and posting more to get myself out there.
2. Working on the graphics and business background with my business.
3. Getting better at setting up for in person events. Making sure everything is set up for it to be eye-catching.

Never give up on your goals. Always take it one step at a time. One thing that I would say isn’t great to hear is it’s always going to be hard with starting out. Focus on the bright things and do your best!

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

One challenge that has been continuous has been selling online. It hasn’t been easy and hasn’t been receiving any attention. However, I still like having my online shop for a portfolio for ones to see.
