Meet Malachi Maisha

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Malachi Maisha. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Malachi below.

Malachi, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

I am now my biggest supporter. At one point in my life, I looked for encouragement from others. When I fell short of receiving that it broke my spirit. Now I survive off my affirmations. I must say getting to that point is an honor for my soul. I spent years fighting depression. Which almost took my life a few times. Now I control the narrative that I am always needed and good enough. Inner meditation, prayer, and action will give you your POWER back.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Malachi Maisha is a national slam poet, artist and freelancer from Detroit, MI. Who uses the art form of literature to empower young men and women to create a movement. Movement of cultural divisions that can unite the world. Recently creating a poetry competition where artists can win $500 in cash and prizes to further their artistic careers. The goal is to provide artists with better opportunities that are starving for success.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Determination- Always reach for the stars! Even when others around you may not see your vision. Others’ fears should not be a hand-me-down you accept.

Faith- is the key to the land of impossible. Your mind has to match what your heart desires. No one can make you believe in YOU more than you.

Readiness- You must be prepared for opportunities you may not be expecting.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did for me was send me to an artistic high school. My parents truly considered my needs for something different over their wants. I don’t know where I would be if my parents did not choose to believe in my dreams and desires. I was not the easiest teenager to raise but my mental health was always a priority. Instead of choosing the school with the highest SAT scores, they chose a school with the greatest opportunities for creativity and expression. So I can live as an expression of pride and perseverance.

I’m Grateful.

Rest in Peace Dad
