Meet Malcolm Dorsey

We recently connected with Malcolm Dorsey and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Malcolm, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.

Starting a business is like mixing a perfect cocktail—you never quite know if the flavors will blend just right, but you hope it leaves a lasting impression. As I dreamt up Pour Decisionz, the name alone raised more than a few eyebrows. “Pour Decisionz? Are you sure about that? What do you know about drinks? It takes money that you don’t have. These statements were stated and asked, (even some family). Their voices filled with plenty skepticism.

Questioning me if I was serious. I’ve never owned a business before, and to be honest, that doubt planted a seed of imposter syndrome deep in my mind. I doubted myself constantly, wondering if I could really make it work. On the exterior though I knew I was gonna always make it work, but internally there was the doubt. However, with the support of friends, family, a chip on my shoulder, strangers and clients, it made it easier to push through the doubts.

Looking back it’s funny, now that I’m in the thick of it two years later, how much I let those doubts stir around in my head like a poorly mixed drink. I questioned everything: Will people take me seriously? Can I really make this work? Am I biting off more than I can chew? How will I afford this? If I update prices will they still support me? Will I get the right crew to work with me? After all, I’m new-ish to bartending, but if there’s three things I’m learning, it’s that I can’t let a little doubt water down my dreams, those who will support will always support, and what is for you will never fail you.

Now fast forwarding to today, I’m reminded that every successful event and satisfied customer reminds me that I *AM* a business owner, not just playing the part. The bartenders on my team are also simply the best.

Imposter syndrome still tries to creep in, but I’m learning to shake it off… Turns out, those “pour decisions” were the best ones after all. Cheers to believing in yourself and following your passion!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Pour Decisionz is a mobile bartending service that I’ve had the pleasure of running for the past two years. As the owner, I’m passionate about more than just mixing drinks—I’m all about creating unforgettable experiences. With a fantastic team by my side, we bring fun, energy, and top-notch service to every event. While anyone can pour a drink, we believe it’s the experience that truly sets us apart. We’re constantly learning, evolving, and loving every moment of what we do, aiming to make each event as memorable as the last. Cheers to great times and even better drinks!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three qualities have been most impactful in my journey with Pour Decisionz: resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to delivering exceptional experiences. For all new business owners or entrepreneurs in general, My advice would be for those early in their journey, focus on building these qualities and skills. Stay resilient in the face of challenges, adapt to changes with grace, and always put the experience of your clients first. The combination of these will set a strong foundation for success.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely! I’m always looking to partner and collaborate with like-minded individuals and organizations. Whether you’re a wedding vendor aiming to add a unique touch to your clients’ big day, part of an HBCU tailgating crew ready to take the celebration to the next level, or even one day a celebrity client, professional athlete, or major corporation wanting to create an unforgettable event, Pour Decisionz is here to bring your vision to life.

As a company, we specialize in crafting memorable experiences, and we’d love to work with anyone who values exceptional service and a great atmosphere. If you’re interested in collaborating, you can reach us through our website or connect with us on our social media platforms. Let’s make something amazing happen together.
