Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Malia Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Malia, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
My confidence and self-esteem are deeply rooted in my belief in God. Knowing that I am created in His image gives me a profound sense of worth and purpose. My faith assures me that there is nothing I cannot do through Christ who strengthens me. This belief serves as a constant reminder that I am equipped to overcome any obstacle and accomplish anything I set my heart and mind to.
My parents also played an integral role in shaping my confidence. From a young age, they taught me by example, showing me what it means to live with purpose and strength. They instilled in me a sense of destiny, always reminding me that I was meant for greatness. They encouraged me to embrace my unique light and never to dim it, even when it felt easier to blend in. Their unwavering support and guidance helped lay the foundation for my self-esteem.
Finally, I’ve cultivated my confidence and self-esteem by intentionally challenging myself every day. I make it a habit to push past my fears and confront any limiting beliefs or habits that hold me back. I’ve learned to start small—taking one step at a time—to build my confidence in manageable ways, and then use those victories as stepping stones to bigger challenges. This daily practice of growth keeps me evolving, learning, and becoming a stronger version of myself.
Faith, family, and intentional growth have been the cornerstones of my journey toward confidence and self-esteem. Together, they remind me that with God’s strength, the love and lessons of those who believe in me, and my own willingness to push forward, there are no limits to what I can achieve.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am deeply passionate about mental health awareness, self-help, and overall well-being. My journey in this space began during college when I experienced depression and anxiety. It was a pivotal time in my life where I had to confront past traumas and prioritize my mental health to become the best version of myself.
In an effort to heal, I started creating videos—essentially virtual diaries—where I shared my innermost thoughts, my struggles, highs, lows, and everything in between. At first, posting these videos on social media was simply a personal outlet, a way to find peace and release. However, something beautiful happened as I continued to share my journey. People began reaching out to me, sharing their own experiences and expressing how much my videos were helping them.
What began as a personal healing process soon revealed itself to be a calling. Over time, I realized that my purpose is to help others by sharing my story and inspiring them to embark on their own journeys of self-improvement.
Today, I am developing my brand, **The Mental Bloc**, which is dedicated to sharing my unfiltered journey to becoming my best self. The Mental Bloc is about showing the raw truth of self-growth, not just the polished, picture-perfect results we so often see on social media. I believe it’s important to meet people where they are and provide genuine advice and tools to help them navigate their unique paths.
Through The Mental Bloc, I aim to inspire others by being vulnerable and authentic, offering a real-time look at the journey of self-discovery and growth. Whether someone is just starting their journey or working to overcome a specific hurdle, my hope is that The Mental Bloc will serve as a guiding light and a source of support.
Currently, I am working on expanding The Mental Bloc with exciting new offerings, including advice-driven content, practical tools, and resources to help others take actionable steps in their journeys. This is more than a brand for me—it’s a mission to empower others to grow, heal, and thrive.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, I’d say the three most impactful qualities in my journey have been **patience**, **persistence**, and the commitment to becoming an **expert** in my area of passion. Each of these qualities has played a crucial role in helping me grow and stay focused, even when the road was uncertain.
**Patience** taught me to trust the process and understand that meaningful growth takes time. It’s easy to get frustrated when things don’t happen as quickly as we’d like, but patience reminds us that every small step forward adds up.
**Persistence** has been my anchor on the hard days. Motivation fluctuates—some days you wake up ready to take on the world, and other days it’s a struggle to even get started. That’s where persistence comes in. It’s about pushing forward, even when you don’t feel like it, because you’re committed to your goals.
Lastly, **becoming an expert** in my passion has been transformative. I make it a point to dedicate time each day to learning, whether it’s reading, practicing, or exploring new ideas. Mastering your craft not only builds confidence but also sets you apart and makes your work more impactful.
To anyone just starting out, my best advice is to **give yourself grace in your process**. So often, we’re our own harshest critics, and that self-judgment can disrupt creativity and progress. Take it one day at a time and focus on small, consistent improvements.
I also can’t stress enough how important it is to have a system in place. Create a realistic routine that aligns with your goals and ensures steady progress. I love this quote: *“Your routine must match the goals you’re working to achieve.”* A solid routine keeps you on track on the days when motivation isn’t there and ensures that you’re consistently moving toward your vision.
Finally, commit to becoming an expert at what you do. Whether it’s your passion, career, or creative pursuit, take the time to study and practice daily. Mastery doesn’t happen overnight, but every effort you put in today builds the foundation for your success tomorrow.

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?
One book that has played a significant role in my personal development is “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle. This book completely shifted my perspective on life and helped me understand the value of living in the present moment.
One of the most impactful lessons from the book is the idea that our thoughts often keep us trapped in either the past or the future, which prevents us from fully experiencing the now. Tolle emphasizes that the present moment is all we truly have, and when we learn to anchor ourselves in it, we find peace, clarity, and purpose.
Also, Tolle’s teachings on detachment from the ego have been transformative. He explains how much of our suffering comes from identifying too strongly with our thoughts, roles, and external achievements. By letting go of these attachments and focusing instead on being, I’ve found a deeper sense of joy and fulfillment.
