We recently connected with Malik (Leektav) Davis and have shared our conversation below.
Malik (Leektav), so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.
I push forward because I know the talent that hold, and I know that no one is like me when it comes to the industry, the entertainment industry, whether it’s radio or media I know I’m one of the kind so when you have that mindset the haters and naysayers, don’t have any power into what I bring into this industry

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
So currently, I am a radio and media personality for Hot 91 the soul of VA. I currently have two shows one on Saturday and one on Sunday called in the building with Leektav where I interview the best of the best in the city whether your artist a business Mogul or a producer I interview them. I am also a content creator, focusing on HBCUs and the power of historical black colleges and more

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three skills that I believe that are needed in this industry is communication, skills, people skills, and lastly just the knowledge of whatever you’re working in like you need to know what’s the ins and outs of the business that you want to work in any advice I will give to anyone is to work hard. You know you have to put the time in and you’re gonna have to receive a lot of no’s, but just you know Keep going, but you always have to know that deep inside that you are valuable sometimes in this industry it will make you feel like you’re less than or you’re not enough, but you always have to remember that you are valuable and you are asset.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
In this industry I had a ton of mentors who have inspired me to keep going, whether that’s people who is my mentor and some people who you know may not know who inspired me like Gayle King Oprah Winfrey, Phil Thornton to name a few, and also some of my mentors April Woodard, Leah Henry a few people who is in the radio and
media industry who has inspired me to keep going in this industry and to not stop and I can’t forget about my parents Ray and Meika and my brothers Christian and Ahmad
