Meet Malyieka Bangura

We were lucky to catch up with Malyieka Bangura recently and have shared our conversation below.

Malyieka , thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I keep my creativity alive by continuously pouring into myself. Giving myself the space and time to think clearly and execute my ideas is very important to me. Doing what makes me happy & not letting the norms of society dim my light because I never want to lose my creative spark. So even if it’s as simple as taking 5 minutes out my day to make a creative reel, or write down my visions and ideas, I’m always doing something!

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My name is Malyieka, I am a 22 year old student, creative and business owner. I am the founder of Protect Your Purpose. Protect your purpose is a non profit community organization, built on the foundation of finding purpose and protecting it. In today’s generation many people feel discouraged or belittled because they feel as though their purpose is not good enough or even nonexistent. But our mission statement here is Jeremiah 29:11, the Lord says “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”. My organization encourages people to not be discouraged or don’t be afraid, there is a plan and a purpose for everyone. Even if you don’t see it yet, patience is key! Your time is coming soon.

On our platform you can expect weekly motivation, livestreams with special guests & homeless outreaches & volunteer opportunities, collaborations, meetings, merch & more!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The three most important qualities that have been most impactful in my journey thus far is faith, organization/time management and community. These three qualities are most important because without faith in God & faith in yourself & craft, you won’t go far. Without organization & time management skills you won’t be able to get things done in a timely & efficient manner. Lastly without community, it will be hard to build & grow. My advice for anyone no matter what era of life you are in, obtain these 3 skills in everything you do. And most importantly, give everything your absolute all. Don’t do anything halfway. Leave your best impression everywhere.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

What I do when I’m overwhelmed is pray and sometimes isolate myself. Pray changes things! I’m content in taking the burn off of my shoulders, and giving it to God. And isolating myself makes it all the more better, to get away from the noise, take time to journal, reflect & meditate. For anyone going through an overwhelming season, I would advice you to not be afraid to take a step back. Everything you need to accomplish will still be there when your ready, just make sure you are your best self first before accomplishing those things.
