Meet Mama Yata

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mama Yata. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Mama, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

My confidence was born from the heart of Melanin Mothers Meet—a vibrant community where the strength, wisdom, and resilience of Black mothers shine. Through shared experiences and collective empowerment, I’ve discovered the power of cultural pride and support, fueling my mission to uplift and guide new moms on their postpartum journeys. My own postpartum journey was a beautiful experience, knowing that most black mothers can’t say the same, it’s my duty to share my story and share how this narrative can change.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

Greetings! I’m Mama Yata—a Postpartum Empowerment Strategist, deeply rooted in the spirit and legacy of Melanin Mothers Meet. My journey began with my own experiences navigating the postpartum period, where I discovered that true healing comes from a holistic approach. I now help new mothers create customized support plans that not only prioritize rest and recovery but also incorporate movement and breathing techniques, meal planning, mindfulness practices, and effective ways to set boundaries with family and friends.

What excites me most about my work is witnessing the transformation when a mother feels truly supported—when she finds strength in her community and begins to heal both physically and emotionally. Recently, I launched a postpartum hair restoration oil, a product inspired by my own journey to help mothers reclaim their confidence during this transformative time. Melanin Mothers Meet hosts a Postpartum Pop Up every 3rd Mondays at 12pm EST. Register at www.MelaninMothersMeet.com.

I’m passionate about ensuring that every Black and Brown mother has access to the resources and care she deserves. Through my work, I hope to inspire a culture of healing and empowerment that uplifts not only mothers but their entire families.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three key qualities that have been most impactful in my journey as a postpartum empowerment strategist are:

1. Cultural Awareness & Ancestral Knowledge – Understanding the traditions of our ancestors, from granny midwives to community-based postpartum care, has been essential. My advice? Study the past to shape the future. Learn from those who came before us and apply their wisdom to today’s maternal health landscape.

2. Holistic Healing & Advocacy – I’ve learned that postpartum support isn’t just about physical recovery—it’s about mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. For those starting out, I recommend gaining knowledge in holistic healing practices like mindfulness, breathwork, and nutrition to support mothers beyond just medical care.

3. Community Building & Relationship Nurturing – The power of collective support has shaped my work. Building trust, genuine connections, and a strong network has allowed me to expand my impact. My advice? Start small but stay consistent. Whether through social media, local meetups, or virtual spaces, find ways to bring people together and create safe spaces for support.

For those early in their journey—lead with purpose, listen deeply, and always center the needs of the community but most importantly, yourself. The more you show up with intention for yourself, the more impact you’ll make.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I am actively seeking collaborations with doulas, midwives, birth workers, and hospitals to enhance postpartum care for new mothers. By partnering together, we can offer comprehensive support through my 8-week online postpartum program and Postpartum Pop-Up events held every 3rd Monday at 12 PM EST. These initiatives are designed to provide mothers with personalized postpartum empowerment strategies, alleviating some of the workload for birth professionals and ensuring mothers receive the care they need.

Who I’m Looking to Collaborate With:

Doulas and Midwives: Your direct engagement with mothers during and after childbirth positions you uniquely to integrate and recommend supplementary postpartum support programs.
Hospitals and Birthing Centers: Institutions aiming to enhance their postpartum care offerings can incorporate these programs to provide holistic support to their patients.
Community Health Organizations: Groups dedicated to maternal and child health can collaborate to extend these resources to a broader audience, ensuring community-wide benefits.
Benefits of Collaboration:

Enhanced Support for Mothers: Providing structured postpartum programs can lead to improved maternal well-being and satisfaction.
Reduced Workload for Birth Professionals: Offering clients additional resources can alleviate some of the demands on doulas and midwives, allowing them to focus on other critical aspects of care.
Strengthened Community Ties: Collaborative efforts can foster a more integrated approach to maternal health within the community.
How to Connect:
