We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Manasseh. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Manasseh below.
Hi Manasseh, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
I’m still working on this…. But, I think whats helping, is making time to stop and celebrate the wins aka all the BLESSINGS.. I’m working on not questioning why this or that. Its not always easy to do, but like I said, I’m working on it!
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am a down-to-the-bone Chicago Artist! I’ve been working on a few of my own projects at a time for some years now. Most recently, I was blessed to tour with Marquis Hill and serve as Music Supervisor for a short film by Alexie Young titled “Take 290”. I’ll be curating some programming for Malcolm X College for Black History Month. I’M SO EXCITED!!! Who knows what’s next, but I’m so ready!
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Take the Lord with you (big or small)- you can’t fail if you when you acknowledge where your help comes from!
2. Listen to learn and not judge
3. Be kind- you never know what people are going through. Also, who TF you think you are? Check yourself!
All I can offer is what I know. For tips on how to be a human, please refer to the above-mentioned talking points 😂
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
I listen to either Brandy’s “Full Moon” album or “Fold The Light” by Chromonicci. I pray, I call a friend, or simply JUST BREATHE! It’s easy to be overwhelmed when you carry so much with you.
If you have someone that you trust, reach out. Too many times, we lose people because they felt heavy, couldn’t figure it out, and felt lonely. Please say something!
