Meet Mandel (ManDeleon) Newton

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mandel (ManDeleon) Newton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Mandel (ManDeleon) with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I get my work ethic from my Dad who retired from the steel mills in Ohio after 30 years

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

My love for music made me want to be a music producer. I’m really self taught. I have never had any piano lessons nor have I really learned how to play an instrument but I have a great ear and love creating new and different sounds. When first started producing music in the late 1990s my goal was to not sound like anything you heard on the radio. The way I looked at it is you can’t be creative sounding like everyone else. Now I have a radio station that I created (Da Love Radio)to pay homage to all the good music you don’t hear everyday. Listening to Daloveradio.com will spark nostalgia and take you to a time and place in your life good and bad. Along with the radio station I recently modeled with the Distinguished Gentleman at the Fox Theater in Atlanta for the Queen of Hearts 10 annual Gala. On June 29th I was in my first play by Robert J Moore called “I Should Not Be A Target”. I have also produced several radio shows and podcasts intros. Such as Positive B White Positive Minds Saturday’s on 101 TKO Radio

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I serviced 4 years as a US Marines and one thing that I learned in the Corp was to adapt and overcome in any situation. Having integrity. My Dad always said a man’s word is his bond and a man without his word ain’t shi$. Being that I was raised in a AME church my faith and love for the Lord is what keeps grounded and grateful for all the blessings in my life.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

First of all I would like to thank my beautiful wife. Who made me want to be a better man and gave me the love and confidence I needed to grow. Her support and belief in me even when I didn’t believe in myself gave me the push I needed to become great. And my new mentor when it comes to radio and tv production. Harvey Elwood Jr Who’s advice and guidance is something that I’ve been missing and needing for a long time.
