We were lucky to catch up with ManiqKen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi ManiqKen, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
Honestly ive never looked at it that way. (Being a risk taker) I tryly find freedom in expression. Diversity is where I thrive. Coming up I remember seeing artist/ entertainers show many sides of themselves. Everyone was so different & unique. Naturally my approach to life & art is authentic. When I’m writing I see colors, fashion, movements, shapes etc. Based on my vibe I let that be my compass. I openly surrender to the craft.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
HELLO WORLD Again I’m ManiqKen, sponge to all things art. Currently my main focuses are music, fashion & community. I’m always creating & giving back. I frequently assist local organizations in the DMV area by lending my time and resources to research in Healthcare and the wellness of the community. From focus groups, to food drives, clothing donations etc. I normally don’t share when I’m in those spaces just because it’s genuine and for causes much greater than me.
As far as music & fashion they go hand in hand. I write ALL my own material & usually try to design at least 1full look in every music video or major appearance.
What I find most exciting about what I do is being able to have an outlet for release. Mental health is very important to me & creativity is my outlet. I urge my followers (ManiqFam) to be true to who they are because you will find happiness through self love & individuality.
As far as new material I recently released a freestyle (YouTube- ManiqKen) “Dopeboy Freestyle” it’s an assertive (take no bs) type of record.
Coming very soon I will be releasing the first international single from my upcoming project which in super excited about. My supporters have been on me so bad to drop a new release but I’m all about timing,
& ITS TIME! I know everyone will love the new record. I don’t want to give to much away but this track exudes confidence & self love.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
When it comes to qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge the three things that have been most impactful to me are; 1. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF
Everything starts with you. You are the foundation.
2. HAVE FUN BUT TAKE YOUR CRAFT SERIOUSLY
No matter what field you are in practice is key for evolution.
3. BE YOU
Everyone else is already taken. Show the world what makes you unique.
All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
As an independent artist I can say it can become challenging at times to finance your vision. Lets be clear life itself is already expensive lol. On top of that there’s everything that comes with being a recording artist from wardrobe, studio time, distribution, travel, photo shoots, promotion, licensing & much more.. Honestly this will always be a factor no matter how much or how little I have. However there are small grants available for indie artists.
My goal is to release this next project. I believe in it so much that I know the right supporters and investors will assist in financing my brand. & if not I’m ok with that too because I WILL NEVER STOP CREATING.
