Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Manny D’mago. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Manny, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I do try to envision myself outside of myself in order get a fresh perspective and I often practice a sense of gratitude in order to understand what works with certain people who enjoy my magic. I do try not to compare myself to other magicians, and be more proactive in learning how to read and adjust to my audience. Different folks like different magic, what works with children’s shows won’t necessarily work with, let’s say, an adult-themed party. Children may respond to illusions invloving puppets and/or a costume, while an adult party may respond to light hearted, borderline naughty type of magic show. It’s all about considering happiness as the key element in providing an engaging magical experience and being able to read my audience.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I learned at the very early age of seven that magic can bring a glimmer of light to any and all who are on the receiving end of the experience.
I never thought that my magic would actually come to pursuing a professional business in entertainment. My inner compass has engaged me completely into gaining a sense of meaning, bringing happiness, a sense of accomplishment, and an unyielding desire to bring smiles to all my magic experiences.
When one books a Manny D’Mago magic experience, prospective audiences have willingly decided to believe in something that has the potential to take them on an emotional, exciting and unbelievable rollercoaster filled with joy and suspended disbelief.
As this new year approaches, the illusions for my magic experiences are consistently upgrading and updating to meet the demands of my growing clientele. Far from being mundane and redundant, expect the unexpected for 2025, as there are a ton of new things coming and if you want to stay updated, my newsletter is the best way to keep in the loop and not skip a beat!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that were most impactful for me in my journey to success have to be patience, persistence, and perseverance, with overnight success taking a long time to mold and sharpen.
I started magic at the young age of seven, showing my grandfather a card trick I learned from a mysterious man in a fire escape and after my grandfather passed in 1997, I stopped practicing for a bit. Needless to say, the emotional trauma devastated me and I stopped practicing for a few years. Fast forward a few years to a moment where some guy at the pier in Santa Cruz , California reignited my interest into magic. The interaction resembled, quite literally, some kind of drug deal and I was addicted again…to magic!
In 2022, I decided to audition for “America’s Got Talent” for season 17. This is one experience I was glad to have endured because of the fact that I was rejected. I thought I had failed tremendously, but in fact, I chose to see this as an opportunity because I still made the cut to get the screen time, even if it was 15 seconds. So I used it as fuel to energize my ascension into a bigger world on stage and TV magic.
Today, thanks to everything I have taken with me in my learning experience, I have my own magic entertainment business, managing in person performances for any and all who want to contract a premium magic experience.
My advise to anyone who wants to improve and develop themselves into a success, just fail and fail and fail. Please don’t stop, be stubborn about it and keep going; learn from the failure and embrace them and don’t hold back!
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always looking to expand, especially now that I’m running my own personal brand of magic experiences. Collaborations and partnerships only make for even better moments of astonishment.
