Meet Maranova

We were lucky to catch up with Maranova recently and have shared our conversation below.

Maranova, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?
I believe that’s the whole beauty of being unique: theres no one like me ! So of course, I bring something different to the table that no one else does, eventually people see it and recognize. I am an indie pop singer, but I’ve performed and even attended shows where I’m the only artist there who’s singing. I feel the pressure of that of course, but I also see the benefit. Most people are more likely to remember the “odd one out” if you will.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’ve always had a deep love for music, and I started singing and writing songs really early on in my life. I began music theatre at young age, allowing me the skills and experience to give me the confidence to pursue a career in music. I moved to LA from New Jersey in 2021 and I’ve been working hard ever since. My music is primarily pop, but I love to incorporate elements of other genres like Indie, R&B and Alternative. Songwriting, for me, is a very personal process. I draw inspiration from my own experiences, as well as from the experiences of those around me. The themes in my songs often revolve around love, self-empowerment, and personal growth. I think music is a powerful tool for expressing emotions and connecting with others, so I try to create songs that people can relate to on a personal level.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My advice would be to stay true to yourself and your unique voice. The music industry can be tough, and there will be moments of doubt and rejection, but don’t give up. Keep working on your craft, collaborate with others, and never stop believing in your talent. Surround yourself with a supportive team and, most importantly, stay passionate about your music.

What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
The music industry is indeed a tough one to break into. I faced challenges like rejection and self-doubt, just like many aspiring artists. What kept me going was my unwavering passion for music. I worked tirelessly on my craft, and kept pushing through the setbacks. Perseverance is key in this industry. The journey may be tough, but if you love what you do and work hard, you can achieve your dreams.
