Meet Marc Warr

We recently connected with Marc Warr and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Marc, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My family instilled it in me and my friends continue to raise the bar for me. I always see places to improve upon in my craft and results don’t come from sitting around, they come from continuously pushing and redefining your limits. The company I keep around me has helped me to never lose sight of the importance of hard work as well.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I first picked up a camera in 2020 during the pandemic. I was a jobless freshman so I took the little money I had in my checking account and bought a Nikon camera bundle in hopes of discovering a new hobby and possibly making some quick cash. I started taking photos of my
friends and family for practice and discovered that I had a decent eye.

A few months into my journey, my Grandmother passed away. In the process of handling associated affairs and cleaning her house, I came across a drawer filled with different types of
film cameras and some photo albums. My mom told me that they belonged to my Grandfather, Jesse Warr.

I never met my Grandfather, but seeing those cameras and learning that he was into taking photos was the sign I needed to take my journey more seriously. With time I learned that I had a true passion for storytelling and cinematography. As I shifted to videos, I decided to rebrand my business to something more personal. I decided to change the name of the page to Marc Warr
and that is the name most people know me by.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Curiosity, company, and competition would be the three most impactful qualities in my journey so far. I believe that it’s mandatory for anyone new to a craft or skill to be curious about where they can take it. Curiosity brings new opportunities, new perspectives, and new knowledge, all necessary tools for someone in the creative space.

The company you keep is also super important. Who you surround yourself with is generally a great indication of who you are as a person. Keep people around you who want to see you win, but at the same time will hold you accountable when you aren’t doing what you are supposed to be doing. It may not always be fun to hear, but it’s necessary.

The third thing is competition. Treat some things like a game. I’m trying to get to the highest level and to do that, I have to beat the bosses in their own arenas. Look at the industry you are in and see where you stand. If the goal is to be the best and you’re not happy where you stand, get excited about how far you have to go and put your head down and work.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

Patience. I’ve been struggling with this for years, but forcing myself to trust in the process. In order to grow, a lot of times you have to take a step back. Those seasons of reflection can be difficult at times. It’s a period of growth without the benefit of tangible work to show for it. Naturally you run the risk of losing clients and losing momentum you’ve worked so hard for. When you eventually finish that reflective season it’s almost like you have to start from scratch again.

It’s a tough task but it’s worth it. At the end of these hiatuses, have been some of the largest blessings I have ever received in my video journey; almost like clockwork. I’m on another semi hiatus at the moment, but behind the scenes I’m working harder than I ever have for a project. I hope that in due time, the project I release will touch others and serve as a testimony to the importance of patience.
