Meet Marcel Benson

We were lucky to catch up with Marcel Benson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Marcel, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

I started on my journey of creating watches in a round about way I spent a good portion of my life in traditional environments like college and corporate. I went to school graduated with honors and got a job that which was considered success in a lot of people’s eyes. It was at this point in my life where I felt the most like and imposter. Majority of my life was borrowed, influenced by outside factors, and validation driven. This is the recipe for imposter syndrome. When you begin to make decisions about your life that are connected to your heart and your authentic self you won’t feel like an imposter for a second. This couple with a genuine effort is a formula for alignment and meeting the world as you are thus connecting deeper with your audience and providing you with purpose.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I designed watches which act as conduits to drive my personal mantra to the masses, Time Should Be Spent Doing What you love! My mission is to inspire people to spend their time doing what they love at every point in their life. This love can change, you can change. This watch represents that promise to self and connects you with other people in this world with a similar mindset. When one run into another person in the Benson community, there’s an instant connection. I believe humanity becomes a better place when people chose to grow and develop in the things that light them on fire in each given season of their lives. It fills me with great joy to be doing what I love and also inspiring and reminding people across the globe to do the same. I believe it leaves a beautiful ripple of good and the world and makes this place just a little better with each interaction.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back it was important to have an identity knowing exactly who we were and what would stood for, having industry knowledge and understanding how we fit, and establishing meaningful relationship with people and keeping the channel of communication open. This has helped a lot with making decisions about designs and understanding areas we could improve. The latter helped us establish such a strong rapport with fans that they rave about us to friends and anyone who’ll listen.I would recommend spending an extensive amount of time understand your why.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Always looking to collaborate with brands and people who align. We love telling stories of people transitioning from traditional careers to more creative endeavors after realizing they’ve been hiding. These individuals can identify as celebrities, influencers, and cool people who don’t care for titles.
