Meet Marcela Timbó

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marcela Timbó. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marcela below.

Marcela, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?
It comes from an early age. Probably in my teens I started developing a sense of responsibility and that made me realize that if I wanted to accomplish something I would have to have a good discipline. I’m able to maintain my discipline in majority of things I do, although I lack some of it when it comes to exercising for example. I need to stretch my body often, but I lack discipline to do it by myself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m a professional home organizer. I go into people’s homes and help take the stress out of their lives. People usually get overwhelmed with their belongings and don’t know how to control their clutter. Majority of people are busy with their jobs, raising children, having a social life that they lack time and discipline to take care of their homes. That’s when I come in and help them declutter and find better ways to organize what they have.

I got into this profession when a co-worker mentioned I had the skills to work with this. At the time I didn’t even know that was a profession. When that happened, I was finding ways to develop my passions. To organize is something I really enjoy doing it and it definitely is a skill I have.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I guess organizing skills itself was something that made me believe that I could use this skill to help others. The ability to learn things on my own from scratch and reinvent myself with a new career. Also, my background in technologies, is something I bring to the table because nowadays we live in a digital world, and I can help people get organized in that aspect as well. I guess you have to trust your gut feelings when you’re first starting out anything, because people will try to tell you the right way of doing things and you’ve got to stick with your intuition as well as believing in yourself.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is anyone who feels overwhelmed by their clutter at home that needs an extra pair of hands to help them decide what to keep or release, and most importantly, that are serious about taking that step to change.
