Meet Marcella Palazzo

We recently connected with Marcella Palazzo and have shared our conversation below.

Marcella , so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.
I keep my creativity alive by giving in to it. I allow the ideas to flow and allow myself to be inspired during my day to day life. I find that works a lot better than if I try to force ideas or creativity. If I feel burned out or uninspired, I know that it’s time for a break and I allow myself to take one. Maybe that means not choreographing for a while, or spending more time outside of the studio. I usually get inspired by something during my break, and that’s how I know its time to go back!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am the founder and choreographer of my Mood & Moves Dance Company. We are a dance company based in San Francisco, California that creates concept videos, offers classes, and hosts performances within our community

Creating choreography is my way of self expression, and I love seeing my vision come to life on dancers. I started dance as a teen and have trained in various styles including Jazz, Ballet, Modern, Heels, and Jazz Funk. I created Mood & Moves in 2021, and it has been a huge part of my life ever since. Mood & Moves focuses on performance quality, character, and captivation. My choreographic process is “imagine first, steps last” so that every piece has a vision and intention behind it. I believe that the best dancers are the ones dancing from the heart, and that the best choreography is the kind that makes you feel something as you’re watching

Currently we are offering monthly heels classes open to all levels of dancers, and rent out our studio by the hour for rehearsals, photoshoots, video shoots, and more

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three qualities that I believe are the driving force in my career are persistence, passion, and intuition. Building your own business is really hard, the only way to succeed is to not give up despite all the obstacles life throws at you. You have to always remember why you are doing what you do, and why you love it. Most of the time the answer is in your heart and your gut. If something doesn’t feel right or doesn’t feel like you, don’t do it. Always stay true to who you are and your business will reflect that

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was let me be myself. They never forced me into classes, activities, or school. When I was little I remember they would just let me play on my spare time. I would play with my toys for hours, make them pose for my photography, or spend time drawing/painting. I believe that’s how I was able to develop my creative skills. They allowed me the time to let my mind expand how it wanted to
