Meet Marcey Rader

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marcey Rader a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcey, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

Self-care is all about creating guardrails around my time, focus, and energy. While others may see self-care as spa treatments, meditation, or juice fasts, I focus more on setting guardrails that keep me safe. The ways I do this include:

– Only allowing meetings three days of the week
– Keeping my early mornings free from meetings and email and always doing at least one top task or priority first.
– Exercise first thing every morning. Please don’t talk to me until I’ve had a workout!
– Go to bed when I’m tired, even if it means 8:30.
– Spending 20-40 minutes in the morning or evening in my infrared sauna
– Turning off almost all of my notifications on my devices
– Not meeting people face to face over coffee unless I’ve had a phone call with them first, so neither of us is wasting any time.

All these things create guardrails to keep me safe and allow me to go through my days with less stress and more energy to devote to my clients, speaking engagements, and, most importantly, my husband.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
At RaderCo, we provide health-powered productivity consulting, coaching, speaking, and training. We solve the problems of burnout and overwhelm by never-ending task lists, over-filled calendars, constant notifications, and insane workloads. We care about more than just making you more efficient. We want you to do it in a healthy way. In our always-on culture, it’s not just work-life balance; it’s tech-life balance.

Our approach to health-powered productivity and our wide breadth of subject matter expertise in various topics allow us to work together to solve problems upstream at the core rather than just focusing on tackling that to-do list or putting a band-aid on a gaping wound.

We’ve worked with companies as small as solopreneurs, start-ups, to Fortune 100 companies, and we have seen many iterations of what works and what doesn’t. We are a boutique firm that knows our lane and ensures we are the best fit before embarking on the journey with you.

Our latest offering is the Powered Path Playbook™ – a combination of analog and digital reflecting, planning, and prioritization tool. There is a one-hour online course and a paper tool. It’s perfect for business owners and teams to plan by year, quarter, month, week, and day. It’s also ideal for making 1-to-1s and reviews more effective.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I never assumed that I knew it all or was the expert. I relied on coaches, consultants, and subject matter experts to guide me in areas of business I was unfamiliar with. I also didn’t succumb to FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) regarding social media. I’ve been LinkedIn-only since 2019. Some of you may have heard JOMO – Joy Of Missing Out – but I don’t have that. I have JOOO – Joy Of Opting Out! I don’t believe I”m missing anything. Not being distracted or focusing efforts on all the channels frees up valuable time and brain space.
I’m a big believer in reflection to properly prioritize and plan. That’s why we developed our Powered Path Playbook™. It’s helped me learn from my decisions and be smarter moving forward.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I owe so much to my mastermind, Speakers With Impact. We’ve been together since 2019 and meet monthly via Zoom and three times a year in person. We share our biggest brags and lessons earned and solicit help and feedback from the group. They’ve pushed me to get my Certified Speaking Professional® designation and encouraged me to see the value in what I bring to companies.
