Meet Marco Pelusi

We were lucky to catch up with Marco Pelusi recently and have shared our conversation below.

Marco, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I was lucky as a young boy, growing up in a household where my talents, skills and abilities were not only fostered, but encouraged. My mother and father both saw my potential, and they individually spent time helping me grow and develop. This kind of childhood is irreplaceable. My self esteem and confidence still lives deep inside today because of this love and support. Not only that, but my family had a chain of salons (still do) back east, and I found a love for hairdressing and haircoloring, and it gave me a chance to truly build up my skill level, and therefore my confidence level built up more surrounding this, with time. I also had an opportunity to start teaching haircolor, for many years now, and the teaching has also boosted my confidence.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
It’s been a fun ride, for sure, starting out back east at my family’s chain of hair salons…. An Italian haircolor company came into our salons one day, and trained us (me at a young age) how to train our staff on haircolor. At this moment, I simply knew I had to become a teacher. The Italian trends, the know-how of haircolor, the speaking onstage and teaching, all of it was what I simply had to do. I love what I do; I love working with people, I love building relationships. I was graced with a job with this Italian color company here in Los Angeles as a haircolor educator when I was just in my twenties, and this gave me a base here in LA. And I developed a client base as well, specifically a celebrity client base… so I enmeshed my hair abilities with my relationships here, and I opened Marco Pelusi Hair Studio in 2005 here in West Hollywood on Robertson. Simultaneously, I developed the Marco Collagen Color Guard HairCare system, which was borne out of my experience with manufacturing and teaching. I so enjoy my products and I’d simply love to invite everyone reading this article to immediately go to marcopelusi.com to explore!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. The universe has a way of TELLING you what you are good at. When I was young, my female friends would often ask me to do their hair. It just was a natural progression for me. If you’re early in your journey, pay close attention to what flows easily and works well in your life. 2. I love communication. I’d recommend every single person reading this to develop their communication skills, no matter what field you are in. If you can be a good communicator, you can succeed at just about anything.
3. Persevere… Don’t give up. Especially on the days when you want to, just don’t give up. It’s about as simple as that. We talked about my hair skill and my communication skill, but now we talk about my ability to simply NOT GIVE UP. This trait clearly separates people who become successful, because good things truly take time.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I enjoy creating hair products. It’s my passion, I do it well.
