We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marco Polo a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Marco, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Love, joy and passion from creating music.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
Born in Etobicoke, Ontario to Italian born parents. Moved to NYC in 2001 to pursue dream of being a producer (specficially in Hip Hop). After music engineering school in Toronto I attained a intership at Manhattan based studio called The Cutting Room. Thats where I met Pumpkinhead and Masya Ace which led to my first releases and from then on leaving the Cutting Room to work as producer full time.
credits include: Masta Ace, Talib Kweli, The Lox, Rakim, Scarface, WestSide Gunn, Pharoahe Monch, Phonte and many more…
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Work Ethic, Thick Skin and humility.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
Pay for me to go to drug rehab as a teenager.
