We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marco Price. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marco below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Marco with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
My work ethic comes from a combination of personal values, social expectations, family influences, and individual drive to be the best i can be at whatever task is placed in front of me. My work ethic was shaped by my parents who worked hard to provide for me and my siblings. Having such influences helped play a crucial role in shaping my approach to work and life in general. Nothing was ever given to me, i had to work hard for everything that i have accomplished. My parents installed in me the idea and concept of work integrity. This helped me form a strong work ethic which is characterized by honesty, accepting responsibilities, and a commitment to doing the right thing. Determination and perseverance also played a key role that my parents installed in me. Being able to accept challenges and setbacks that occur in any career provided me with the mind set that anything is possible as long as you keep God first and work hard. My parents showed me how to deal with setbacks be confronting it with resilience and determination to overcome any obstacle whether big or small.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My true calling lies in serving those whose voices often go unheard or undervalued. Dedicated to helping youth and the homeless population by addressing underlying needs of these youth and homeless individuals. I am also dedicated in providing community resources and guidance for the homeless population as well as paying close attention to the youth of the community by expanding their minds and introducing them to new ideas, ways of thinking, and processing problems whether it be school, home, or community related. Introducing the idea of therapeutic mentoring which is focused on helping youth identify their strengths and safe and constructive ways to build on those strengths. Therapeutic mentoring is different from regular mentoring because therapeutic mentoring offers structured, strength based support services to support a specific goal on the youth’s behavioral treatment plan such as developing social skills, interpersonal skills, problem solving strategies, making healthy decisions, improving self worth and self confidence, develop age appropriate behaviors, and developing meaningful relationships with their families. This method of mentoring can be used with the homeless population as well. Just providing a safe space to help individuals on the road to progress and healing. My organizations will offer that safe haven that is needed for individuals to find their own path to progress and healing.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Three important qualities that impacted my journey were emotional intelligence, compassion, and the ability to inspire greatness to any individual that i cross paths with. Emotional intelligence refers to a person’s ability to recognize, understand, and regulate emotions and respond to those emotions in ways that allows better communication , empathize with others, and address and overcome challenges in a more positive way. Compassion which takes us beyond empathy. When you are able to empathize, you have a better understanding of feelings of other people around you . Compassion helped me to not be judgemental and be more understanding of what others are going through or their views on situations. Having an understanding and not being judgemental helped me throughout my journey. The most important quality to have when in a leadership position is to inspire greatness in the people around you. That is an important characteristic in being a leader that helped me on my journey. Being a good listener and being able to take feedback from my team helped me to let them know that their ideas matter and are valued. This can help promote stronger ties when forming a team. I have learned that hearing feedback from your team is important every voice counts and it helps with keeping all team members engaged. Those three skills helped my to become the leader that i am today.
What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
The most impactful thing that my parents did for me was just love me and guide me and help me to realize if i wanted something that i would have to put in the work to obtain it. My parents instilled in me the idea of being a “go getter” which translates that anything that i set my mind to can be obtain through hard work and believing in Jesus Christ and knowing all things are possible through HIM and nothing will prosper without him.
