Meet Marcus Buckner

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marcus Buckner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have Marcus with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

I get my work ethic from my family. My mother, aunties, sisters, and uncles always went to work. As long as I can remember, my mama and my Nanny Bay made sure we never looked less than—that meant they got up and handled business. Where I’m from, work is just part of life. My uncles kept jobs and side hustles. My grandma sold ice cream cones, pecan candy, and frozen cups. When my big sister graduated, she got on at Target and put her whole circle on—friends, my other sister, cousins. I learned the hustle early—cutting grass and finding ways to earn by eight or nine. Mom and Nanny are retired now; the rest of us are still out here getting to it.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m currently in New York City at the Fast Company Innovation Festival, where Square Bidness Apparel was invited to participate as an innovative emerging brand. Being here surrounded by industry leaders is inspiring, and I’m grateful to be in the same space as these companies and brands.

I deployed my website this week, www.squarebidness.com .
Since May, I’ve been working tirelessly on it after attending Stripe Sessions in San Francisco, where I was first introduced to “vibe coding” and the new wave of technology shaping the future. Before that, I had zero web development experience. I was computer-savvy, but coding I wasn’t familiar with that at all. That conference lit a spark, and from there I dove all in. Now, I’ve hardcoded my site myself — from the front end to the back end — building the entire stack to support my vision.

I’m releasing the Square Bidness VSOP Collection, available for preorder now on the site. It’s a tech-casual athleisure line featuring a heat-active nylon and suede jacket and short combination, a set that has been “aging” for four years to make its debut this fall and carry into the holiday season. Like VSOP — Very Superior Old Pale — it represents time, patience, and smooth execution.

Square Bidness Apparel is about more than fashion. I’m designing apparel, building web stacks, and positioning the brand as the next emerging name at the intersection of culture, technology, and innovation. Readers beware: none of this came overnight. Just like the VSOP collection, my journey has been aging and developing — now it’s ready to be served.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

“God first. Then it’s knowledge, wisdom, and understanding—learn constantly, apply what you learn, and keep pushing forward. Time is the most valuable asset, so maximize it. And today, if you’re not using AI, you need to start now cause you already behind.”

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

Yes—we’re open to collaboration with retailers, U.S. makers, tech partners (AI/infra), creators, media, and values-aligned advisors. We remodeled HQ1/HQ2 in 2025 and are planning a data-center buildout on a new property. If “principles, morals, business done right” is what you abide by connect with us at squarebidness.com/connect
Let’s get to it!
