Meet Marcus Hamm

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Marcus Hamm. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Marcus, appreciate you sitting with us today. Maybe we can start with a topic that we care deeply about because it’s something we’ve found really sets folks apart and can make all the difference in whether someone reaches their goals. Self discipline seems to have an outsized impact on how someone’s life plays out and so we’d love to hear about how you developed yours?
My self-discipline can be attributed to High School athletics. A significant turning point was when I joined my high school wrestling team in the 10th grade. I was 14 years old having skipped the 3rd grade, but to that stage of my life, I hadn’t entered scholastic sports. Before joining the wrestling team, I took Kung Fu, an introduction to learning self-discipline and holding to the term, “indomitable spirit”. I carried that with me into athletics and went from being the slowest runner who couldn’t enter a meet, to becoming team captain with a solid record by senior year. From there, real life began and I have carried the lessons with me through it all leading up to this very day.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
To be honest, I never had a great memory. As a youth, I struggled with testing and had a C average from the 4th to the 6th grade. What happened to convert me into an honor roll student was my tremendous fortitude. I literally lost sleep over a bad report card, and I never wanted to feel that negative feeling again knowing that I could have done better if I tried. I learned to not limit myself and to define myself as a winner. As I mentioned before, I skipped the 3rd grade, prior to doing so I was an honor roll student. The transition to a new school as a younger student than my peers impacted my psyche and it took time to adjust. I needed this because my younger self was confident because I was surrounded by friends who made me comfortable. When I became a better student in the 6th grade, it came after learning to believe in myself and root for myself. It ensured that no matter where I ended up, I would never allow myself to fall backward again. To tackle my poor memorization skills, I learned new methods of study, primarily that of repetition in writing. I learned that when I write down information, it becomes easier to retain, then reading it out loud following further solidifies it. It made a huge difference.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am building a full-service production house that will be collaborating with fellow artists and filmmakers to develop meaningful content. Our primary focus is to focus on disability and diversity inclusion both in front of and behind the camera. We produce content that ranges from action to thriller, to horror, to comedy, to drama so if you have a project and are looking for a production house to see it through to completion, you can contact me at [email protected]. If you are an Actor or Actress looking to build your reel or gain on-set experience, you should also reach out. Please provide links to any Acting resumes, reels, or other materials that can help us to determine your drive and experience levels. If you work on the production end, send your resume, and specify what you can offer. I know that we often wear many hats so don’t limit yourself, if you can double as a DP and Actor, there’s a better chance that we will connect with you!
