We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marcy Pusey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marcy below.
Marcy, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Finding my purpose was a combination of life experience and the right friend at the right time. My purpose is to “create safe spaces and connections so that others feel worthy of value and love.” You can imagine why this would be so important to me: I needed (and didn’t always have) safe spaces to feel worthy of value and love. Thus, from as young as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be that for other people. In instances where I can’t personally be the safe space for someone… I can create the atmosphere or the experience for someone, even if I’m not in it.
However, I wasn’t able to put it into words until I met Gary Williams. He joined the coaching team at our workplace and immediately brought his deep love (and nerdiness) for all things purpose and personality. I thought I loved these things… but meeting his passion made me realize I could go so much deeper. He had the coolest opportunity to work through his own purpose statement with the Simon Sinek. And now, he shares that with others… and I was a humble benefactor! He offered to walk me through a purpose statement session, and after listening to me for a couple of hours, a purpose statement rose up. He heard my themes around caring for others, a desire for safety, belonging, and acceptance, and presented my statement. He nailed it. It’s exactly what I feel put on the planet to do.
So between my lived experiences and finding someone to listen and reflect it back to me… I now know my purpose and get to joyfully live from it daily.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a trauma and resilience certified therapist, an award-winning author and speaker, and the founder of Miramare Ponte Press, where I offer custom publishing and writing coaching to help people bring their stories into the world. Through a variety of hands-on and hands-off services, I guide writers in not only crafting impactful books but also navigating the emotional and mental challenges that often arise in the creative process. As an author of 22 (and counting!) books myself, I understand firsthand the power of storytelling—for personal healing and for the transformation of an audience.
My work centers on making complex ideas about mental health, healing, and resilience simple and accessible, empowering people to regulate their nervous systems and reclaim their stories. What makes my approach unique is the way I integrate my deep understanding of the brain and mental health into the publishing and coaching process. Writing isn’t just about putting words on a page; it’s about overcoming insecurities, pushing past self-doubt, and sometimes even healing from past wounds. Because of my background, I can walk authors through these struggles with empathy, helping them move forward with confidence.
One of the most exciting aspects of my work is witnessing the impact of storytelling—how a single book or a shift in perspective can transform someone’s sense of self-worth, power, and purpose. Whether I’m helping authors shape their books, speaking on the neuroscience of storytelling, or writing stories that spark connection and healing, my mission remains the same: to reach people where they are, offer hope, and remind them they matter.
And I get to do this work from a place of calling! My priority is always the author—not a bottom line. I know what it’s like to feel like your story doesn’t matter, and it’s my mission to help writers recognize the significance of their words and their experiences. The fact that I get to live from my calling and also pay my bills is a gift I don’t take for granted.
Right now, I’m continuing to build The Survival Squad series, which blends neuroscience with engaging storytelling for kids and adults. I’m also always running masterclasses, fostering connections in my writing and publishing community, The Writer’s Block, and creatively coming up with ways to help more voices get into the hearts, hands, and homes of the people who need them.
Whether through my books, coaching, or publishing services, my goal is to help people tell their stories, heal in the process, and change lives—starting with their own.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Now that you’ve got me thinking about it… there are three key insights with the greatest impact on my journey—each shaping not only my personal growth but also the work I do today.
The first was learning about windows versus mirrors in relationships. For much of my life, I internalized how others treated me, assuming their actions reflected something about me—my worth, my likability, my enough-ness. But I eventually realized that people are not mirrors; they are windows. Their behavior isn’t necessarily a reflection of me, but rather an opportunity to learn something about them—their wounds, their limitations, their fears. This shift freed me from taking things so personally and allowed me to meet people with greater compassion while also protecting my own well-being.
The second is my lifelong desire to help people feel wanted. Even as a child, I was drawn to the underdog—the excluded kid, the one sitting alone, the one no one noticed. I would seek them out because I knew what it felt like to be unseen, and I wanted them to know they mattered. That same drive still fuels me today. Whether I’m writing books, coaching authors, or speaking, my heart is always for the person who feels like they don’t belong. I want to be a voice that says, “You are seen. You are valuable. You have a place here.”
The third is how my own unprocessed trauma led me to the deep work of understanding healing, resilience, and the nervous system. Raising children with trauma through foster care and adoption, combined with my own realization that I was in an abusive marriage, forced me to navigate survival in ways I never anticipated. That journey sent me into a deep dive of studying trauma, recovery, and resilience—not just for my own survival, but ultimately for my ability to thrive. And now, that knowledge is at the heart of everything I share. I help others tell their stories and reclaim their own healing because I’ve lived it. I know the transformation that’s possible.
For those just starting their journey, my advice is this:
1. Learn to separate what belongs to you from what belongs to others. If someone treats you poorly, it says more about them than it does about you. Know what belongs to you and what doesn’t and honor that.
2. Seek out those who need belonging, and in doing so, you’ll find your own. The world is full of people who need someone to sit with them, listen, and remind them they matter.
3. Your hardest experiences may one day become the foundation of your greatest impact. Don’t shy away from the deep work of healing—it will open doors you never imagined.
Wherever you are in your journey, know that your story isn’t over. Keep going. Keep growing. The work you do today—on yourself and for others—matters more than you know.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?
My ideal client is someone who is ready to grow, even if they don’t quite know how yet. Whether I’m working with therapy clients or writing clients, I love supporting people who are willing to lean into the process—whether that’s healing, storytelling, or both.
For writing and publishing, my ideal clients are storytellers who care deeply about the impact of their words. They might be new or experienced writers, but what matters most is that they believe in the power of their story and are committed to bringing it into the world. I especially love working with authors who have a message of hope, healing, or transformation—whether in nonfiction, memoir, or even children’s books. Many of my clients face the insecurities that come with writing, and because of my background in mental health, I can uniquely support them through the emotional challenges of the creative process.
One of my favorite client-authors, Karen Mondragon, is in her 80s. We just published her 4th book and she’s writing her 5th now. She’s written two children’s picture books, an early reader chapter book, an adult poetry book, and is now working on an adult nonfiction/memoir. She looked at her life and realized it was finally time to live her own dreams. She dusted off paper files that had been in a drawer for DECADES and began sharing them with the world. These stories will outlive her, carrying on her legacy, her heart, and her love for others. I’m so proud of her!
For therapy, my ideal clients are those who feel stuck in cycles of stress, anxiety, or survival mode and are looking for tools to regulate their nervous systems and reclaim their sense of self. Many of my clients have experienced trauma, whether in childhood, relationships, or major life events, and they’re ready to begin healing in a way that feels safe and empowering. My virtual therapy work is all about helping people understand how their brains and bodies respond to life, so they can move forward with clarity, confidence, and peace.
At the core, my best-fit clients—whether in therapy or writing—are people who want to grow, heal, and share their voices in a meaningful way. If that’s you, I’d love to walk alongside you in your journey.
