Meet Margarita Foss

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Margarita Foss a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Margarita, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

As a mother and a woman, I have faced challenges that once felt overwhelming. I became a leader not just in my own life, but also for my community. My journey began as a dedicated dentist in Colombia and later as a dental hygienist in Texas. I worked tirelessly for my children, believing that financial success would bring happiness—not just for me, but for them too.

I thought I was teaching my kids a valuable lesson: “Finish school to secure a good job, and then you will be happy.” But as I focused solely on professional success, I became demanding and rigid with my children, losing sight of our emotional connection.

After my divorce, I clung even tighter to the idea of success, losing touch with what truly mattered. My children began to struggle emotionally; our communication broke down, and I didn’t realize how deeply this was affecting them. I found out too late that my son was falling into depression and my daughter openly expressed her hatred towards me. This painful realization hit me hard in 2018, and shattered my world.

In that moment of crisis, I began to ask myself deep questions: “Why is this happening? What have I done wrong? How can I help my children?” I believe everything arrives in our lives at the right moment, and this was the start of my emotional healing journey. I had to confront my own fears and desires—my need for success often stood in the way of my true purpose.

With the help of mentors and through deep self-reflection, I learned to recognize my emotions and their impact. I shifted my focus from external success to nurturing my own happiness. As I began to heal, my connection with my children also started to mend. We became a united family once again, overcoming emotional obstacles that had once driven us apart.

Now, I find my purpose in helping other mothers who are searching for reconnection with their children, emotional fulfillment, and healing. My mission is to provide these mothers with tools to overcome their emotional challenges, encouraging them to cultivate self-care and emotional intelligence. I want them to acknowledge their feelings rather than ignore them.

My story carries a message: it’s vital to embrace emotional health and to take bold steps towards what you truly desire. In a world that often tells us to prioritize success above all, it’s essential to remember that true fulfillment comes from deep connections—not just with others, but with ourselves.

In the end, the lesson I want you to take away is this: Trust yourself, prioritize your emotional well-being, and dare to pursue what truly brings you joy. Your journey to finding purpose may begin with a simple act of courage.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As an emotional empowerment coach, I specialize in helping mothers and their adult daughters reconnect and heal their relationships. I am passionate about delivering training sessions that address emotional obstacles, boost self-esteem, and create powerful breakthroughs. The transformations I witness—the “before and after” moments—bring me immense satisfaction and joy.

I offer workshops and conferences, and I’m excited to share that I’ve recently co-launched a podcast called “The Empowered Latina Podcast” with my daughter, Daniela Collazo. After overcoming many emotional barriers together, we decided to start our own podcast to share personal growth and emotional well-being tools with our community. The podcast is available on YouTube, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and various other podcast platforms. All of our support is provided in Spanish and is specifically geared towards Spanish-speaking women.

In our commitment to providing as much support as possible, we also created a bimonthly hiking group called “The Empowered Latina Hiking,” where mothers and daughters can engage in deep conversations while enjoying nature together.

Additionally, I am the author of a bestselling book titled “Que Te Valga Madre el Pasado”, which speaks to the importance of letting go of the past to embrace a brighter future. We have also established a supportive Facebook group for mothers and daughters, where we offer masterclasses focused on emotional healing.

Moreover, I serve on the board of a nonprofit organization in Austin, Texas, called Amhiga Hispana. This organization aims to provide tools to Hispanic women in Central Texas through educational workshops. We are dedicated to uplifting and empowering our community.

One of the core programs I offer is a five-week program called “The Empowered Latina Academy,” designed for women who wish to reconnect with themselves and their families.

Through my initiatives, I aim to inspire and empower women to embrace their personal journeys, allowing them to forge stronger connections with their daughters and find fulfillment in their lives.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Three Impactful Qualities in My Journey

1. Emotional Intelligence: Understanding my feelings and those of others has been very important. It helped me connect better with my children and manage difficult situations as we worked on healing our relationships.

2. Resilience: Being able to bounce back from tough times has been key in my journey. When I faced challenges, like my divorce and strained relationships, resilience allowed me to stay focused on my goals and keep moving forward.

3. Constant Emotional Healing: I learned that healing is an ongoing process. In my book, *Que Te Valga Madre el Pasado*, I talk about the importance of constantly working on our emotions to let go of the past and embrace a better future. This practice has been essential in my personal growth and in helping others on their journeys.

Advice for Those Early in Their Journey

For those just starting their journey, my advice is to focus on understanding your feelings and how they affect your relationships. Try to see challenges as chances to learn and grow; if you face difficulties, ask yourself what you can learn from them and don’t hesitate to ask for help if you need it. Also, make a habit of learning something new, whether it’s through reading, attending workshops, or talking to people who inspire you. By doing these things, you’ll build confidence and create deeper connections in your life.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal clients are Hispanic mothers and adult daughters who want to reconnect and heal their relationships. These women often feel dissatisfied with their lives; some mothers may carry guilt, while daughters may feel resentment. They long to improve their mother-daughter bond and find a sense of fulfillment in their lives.

Many of these women struggle with self-esteem issues and want to learn how to communicate better—both with themselves and with others.
Importantly, they are Spanish Speakers, as all our support and resources are provided in Spanish.
They have an open mindset and believe that emotional healing is possible. They are willing to put in the effort to transform their relationships, understanding that every problem, except for death, has a solution.

My ideal clients value emotional well-being and are eager to learn and grow together. They are ready to engage in deep conversations, explore their feelings, and embrace vulnerability. They understand the importance of supporting each other on their healing journeys and hold each other accountable.

In summary, my clients are brave Hispanic women seeking positive change. They want to let go of past hurts, improve their self-esteem, and create a stronger, more loving relationship with their mothers or daughters. Together, we can build a safe space for healing, understanding, and joy.
