We recently connected with Margarita Yutsaytis and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Margarita, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
My resilience was shaped when I moved to the U.S. and had to start from scratch. With no connections and limited English, I relied solely on my skills and strong work ethic. Just three weeks after arriving, we went through a fire and lost most of our belongings, which gave me even more motivation to rebuild everything as quickly as possible.
In the first few months working at a salon, clients started coming to me — largely because I never refused to do nail designs and always tried my best to deliver even the most complex requests. That quickly built trust and loyalty. I worked without days off and at a faster pace than others, which allowed me to take more clients each day.
To me, resilience is not about the absence of hardship — it’s about continuing despite it. I gave my all every single day, and that’s what gave me the strength and confidence to eventually open my own business in New York.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I continue to work with clients, but I also teach and lead professional courses in nail sculpting and design. Recently, I became a competition coach and an international judge, and now I help people from different countries prepare for competitions, learn new techniques, and unlock their creative potential.
What inspires me most is seeing how education and support can transform someone’s confidence and career. Whether it’s a beginner or an experienced nail artist preparing for an international championship, I’m passionate about helping each person grow and find their own path in the industry.
The name Mars Nails wasn’t chosen by accident. At one point, I was deeply interested in astrology, and I was especially drawn to the planet Mars — a symbol of action, drive, and breakthroughs. These qualities truly resonated with me, both in life and in my work. I’ve also always been fascinated by space, other worlds, and the freedom of self-expression. That energy became the heart of my brand — bold, vibrant, and just a little bit otherworldly.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I think the three most important qualities that helped me get to where I am today are discipline, patience, and adaptability.
Discipline kept me going, I showed up and kept working even when results weren’t coming right away. Patience helped me focus on the little things, improve my technique, and deliver great quality. And adaptability? That was key when I moved to a new country and had to adjust to a completely different language, culture, and way of doing business.
If you’re just starting out, my advice is:
Don’t be afraid of hard work or long hours. Be flexible, learn to adjust when things change, but don’t lose sight of your goals and your vision. That’s what helps you grow, even when it’s tough.
Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been stepping into the role of a mentor and competition coach. This year, I reached a new level: I started training students from different countries for championships and even judged some of them at the international level.
This step required me to develop not only my technical skills but also emotional resilience and flexibility. I had to learn how to give feedback in a way that inspires rather than discourages. I also had to learn how to balance my own business while supporting others. It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been incredibly valuable.
