Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Margaux Pagès. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Margaux, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic is rooted in the example set by my parents, who are dedicated scientists and continuous advisors. Their commitment to their research and their relentless pursuit of knowledge instilled in me the values of hard work, perseverance, and a deep sense of responsibility. I saw firsthand how they approached challenges with intellectual curiosity and a methodical approach, which taught me that success comes from a combination of passion and unwavering dedication.
Their support and guidance have also been a constant source of inspiration. They taught me the importance of not only being a leader but also a lifelong learner. This foundation has been crucial in my entrepreneurial journey, from navigating the challenges of founding and scaling multiple startups to guiding over 15 energy companies. Their influence is central to my approach to work, which is built on a foundation of integrity, resilience, and a commitment to making a tangible impact.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m Margaux Pagès, and I am the CEO and founder of TMA, a company revolutionizing critical industries through our AIoT-driven solution. At TMA, we are dedicated to building intelligent industrial ecosystems that are safer, more sustainable, and more efficient. Our core product, “The Hazardous Good Companion,” tackles the pervasive issues of inaccurate inventory tracking, inefficient logistics, and safety risks in the gas, electricity, and industrial sectors.
What I find most exciting and special about our work is the tangible impact we are making. We are not just creating technology; we are creating a solution that directly contributes to a more sustainable future. By digitizing hazardous, reusable inventory, we provide real-time visibility and predictive analytics that help our clients significantly reduce waste, minimize emissions, and prevent safety incidents. For example, our system can reduce transportation-related emissions by optimizing delivery routes, and prevent catastrophic events by enabling predictive maintenance for assets like gas cylinders and transformers. The opportunity to work at the intersection of deep technology and critical infrastructure, and to see how our solution makes a real difference in people’s lives and on the environment, is incredibly fulfilling.
Our collaboration with partners like Techstars, Niterra Venture Lab, and the World LPG Association further validates our approach and provides us with the necessary network to scale.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back on my journey, three qualities and skills were most impactful: public speaking, resilience, and fundraising.
1. Good public speaking skills for clients, partners, and investors:
This is about more than just presenting information; it’s about telling a compelling story and connecting with your audience on a personal level. Whether I’m explaining our technology to a potential client or a long-term vision to an investor, the ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and with passion is essential. It’s how you build trust and convey the potential of your vision.
2. Resilience in the face of challenges:
The entrepreneurial journey is filled with setbacks, from product development challenges to market entry hurdles. Resilience is the ability to bounce back from these moments, learn from them, and keep pushing forward. It’s about maintaining a positive outlook and a solution-focused mindset, rather than dwelling on problems. This quality has been crucial for me in navigating the complex and highly regulated environments we operate in.
3. Fundraising to give us time to build great, groundbreaking things:
Fundraising is a critical skill that provides the lifeblood for innovation. It’s not just about securing capital; it’s about building a network of supporters who believe in your mission and can provide strategic advice. The ability to articulate our market opportunity and tangible impact has allowed us to secure the necessary funding to move from a vision to a deployable solution, and to attract key partners who accelerate our growth.
My advice for those early in their journey:
Be modest but trust your gut. While it’s important to be open to feedback and advice from mentors and investors, you are the one who has the most intimate knowledge of your business. Trust your instincts when it comes to key decisions and don’t be afraid to forge your own path. Confidence in your vision, combined with a willingness to learn and adapt, is the ultimate recipe for success.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
we are actively seeking partners and collaborators who share our vision of creating a safer and more sustainable industrial future. We believe that groundbreaking innovation is built through a network of strategic alliances.
