Meet Margoth Barrera

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Margoth Barrera. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Margoth, thank you for being such a positive, uplifting person. We’ve noticed that so many of the successful folks we’ve had the good fortune of connecting with have high levels of optimism and so we’d love to hear about your optimism and where you think it comes from.

Great question! I think my optimism is rooted in a blend of gratitude, faith in God, mindset, and a sense of humor. It is focusing on what you have instead of what you lack. I believe that optimism is not a denial of life’s difficulties but rather a choice to approach any challenges with the belief that better days await.

I am grateful for my faith and my close relationship with God. There is a sense of peace in leaving your life in God’s hands and trusting that it will all work out no matter what path you end up on. It’s comforting to know that I am not alone; I am guided, cared for, and can face any obstacle head-on. In the same way, by consistently focusing on gratitude and positive aspects of my life, I am reminded of the many blessings that surround me. There’s very little room for negativity when you choose to be grateful for everything in your life. Each blessing and challenge I have faced has strengthened me. They ultimately made me and continues to make me who I am.

Re-framing and a growth mindset are other key elements of my optimism. It’s easy to get caught up in negative thought patterns, but by choosing to re-frame my way of thinking I can transform obstacles into opportunities. Something as simple as shifting my focus from feeling nervous to feeling excited can change your whole perspective and therefore your outcome. You are no longer afraid to do something; you now get to enjoy the process.

Lastly, having a sense of humor is a great way to maintain optimism. The ability to laugh at myself or my circumstances allows me to feel free and my creativity to flow. Through laughter, I’m able to have a lighter approach to life and thus keep a positive outlook no matter what life throws my way.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m a bilingual voice actor whose journey began in TV and film production. While my career started behind the scenes, I discovered that my true passion lies in acting. Through my years of experience and exploring different areas within the industry, I came across voice acting, and it was like a light bulb went on. This realization led me to transition into voice-over work, which I am now pursuing as my full-time career. At my core, I’m all about storytelling and creativity; I just express it a little differently now—trading the camera for the microphone.

Born in Mexico but having lived most of my life in the United States, I fused both cultures, allowing me to bring a unique perspective to everything I do. Growing up in two cultures broadened the range of life experiences I can draw upon for inspiration.

My current work is in commercials, corporate narration and e-learning. However, I have been training extensively in dubbing and animation and hope to start working in that area as well.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I would say that the things that have impacted me the most are more so actions or beliefs instead of skills. They’re my little nuggets of wisdom.

Do more of what makes you happy. We all have to work for a living, so it might as well be something that we enjoy. I like to let my inner child out to play, which allows me to be more creative and somewhat fearless. I try to stay curious and I like to try new and fun things. All of this expands your knowledge and allows you to be a well-rounded person.

On that note, learn. Always keep learning. Knowledge is power and confidence. Try to learn a new subject, read a new book, stay informed on current events, learn about history, or try a new hobby. The more you know, the better prepared you are for whatever opportunity (or wrench) comes your way.

Last but definitely not least, be open and flexible. Life is constantly changing and surprising us; the best we can do is learn to adapt and pivot as necessary. There’s joy in the process not just the end result.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When I am feeling overwhelmed I like to go back to basics. I take deep breaths, breaks and even go for a walk. I think calming my mind allows me to focus on what is important.

I try to prioritize. I make a list of what needs to be done and what can be held off. I try to schedule things and stay organized. I also feel that tackling the most daunting task is the best approach. It frees you because everything seems like a breeze afterwards.

More importantly I like to hug and pet my dog – she’s the instant cure to anything – and, of course, be surrounded by my family and friends.
