Meet Mari Perez

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mari Perez. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mari below.

Mari , we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Our purpose became clearer as we spent more time out in nature in the mountains together. It was as if the quiet claming essence of the mountains challenged what we thought our purpose would be and helped paint a clear picture. We felt the pull to start not only our own business focused on trail running but building and sharing the community of trail running with current trail runners and new people as well. Together, putting in the time to communicate, brainstorm ideas, whether it was on a walk with our dog, run, or hike we had a strong gravity pull to trail running. We are both involved in careers currently related to healthcare and helping others is what drives us in that area. Helping and sharing with others are main cornerstones in our transition to building our trail running brand from our previous careers. We really enjoy working in healthcare but our passion and drive has lead us to beginning this journey of building this trail running brand. We are excited to continue to share, grow, and evolve our brand with the help of the community we are building with. We hope we can help others begin their journey with trail running not only for the physical health outcomes but also for the mental health, resilience, grit, love, and camaraderie it builds.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Josh and I have recently started our dream brand that is focused on the needs of trail runners. We started Trail Gains LLC earlier this year. In April we announced that we are building this from the ground up. Our vision for Trail Gains is a world where every trail runner trusts in the reliability of their gear, achieves unparalleled performance, and nurtures a profound respect for nature. We strive to be the leading provider of innovative, sustainable solutions that empower runners to explore and protect the natural world. Our commitment to quality, integrity, and environmental stewardship drives us to create products that enhance the trail running experience while preserving the beauty and vitality of our planet for future generations. We have been going through each stages of starting a business and have already grown together so much in the process. At this time we are excited to share that we ordered our first samples of a pre-workout supplement that is formulated for trail runners and we should receive the samples within the next few months. Soon after that we hope to launch the sale of our pre-workout to the trail running community!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Understanding your community, being real and genuine, and keeping an optimistic outlook paired with consistency. We believe these three areas have been the most impactful as we have built the Trail Gains community and backbone for the brand. We are passionate about serving the trail running community because we truly see and feel there is a need in this community and want to cultivate a trusting relationship with this community. The area of being real and genuine has been instilled in us even before we started Trail Gains but now it is an area we are staying true to. We want people to know we are putting ourselves out there to be honest, transparent, and genuine in our hopes to serve the trail running community. We have tried to share not only our successes but also the trials and roadblocks we have encountered on the way. We are also transparent when questions our community asks us and if we do not know the answer we will try to find someone that can give a truthful answer. People now with all the vast amounts of info that is out there sometimes are just looking for people that are real and genuine, be yourself people gravitate towards that. The third area of keeping an optimistic outlook that is paired with consistency is something that is sometimes easier said than done. There are days when there are frustrations and setbacks that can damper the excitement of starting a business but the thing to keep in mind is your vision long term. You will see more results and good things happen if each day no matter what is going on you do the little things to build up the stepping stones to where you want to go. Keeping a written visual cue is helpful to look at and remind yourself this as well.

How would you describe your ideal client?

Our ideal client is an individual who seeks to achieve peak performance on the trail. They look for a brand that integrates their passion for trail running with their love for nature. Each step that person takes is a testament to their dedication to sustainability, performance, and stewardship, embodying the essence of a brand that not only provides for their needs but also echoes their respect for nature and community. If this description has spiked your interest we will be sharing ways to reach us to follow along our journey!
