Meet Maria Myraine Yap

We recently connected with Maria Myraine Yap and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria Myraine, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

I attribute my resilience to several key influences and experiences in my life. Growing up, I faced various challenges as an immigrant child that required me to adapt and persevere. My parents, who both worked tirelessly to provide for our family, instilled in me a strong work ethic and the importance of determination. Watching their dedication taught me to push through obstacles and stay focused on my goals.

Additionally, participating in competitive sports during my school years played a significant role in building my resilience. The discipline, teamwork, and persistence required to excel in athletics taught me how to handle setbacks and bounce back stronger. These experiences showed me that failure is not a stopping point but a stepping stone to success. Also, during my senior year of high school, I endured a near-fatal car accident that took nearly a year of recovery and a list of injuries that I still manage to this day.

Lastly, my professional journey has also been a source of resilience. Navigating the ups and downs of various roles, layoffs, learning from mistakes, and continuously seeking improvement have all contributed to my ability to remain steadfast in the face of adversity. Each challenge has been an opportunity to grow, adapt, and develop a mindset that embraces resilience as a core value. All of these have also contributed to my passion for being a business owner and inspired me to apply for my LLC.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I, Maria Myraine, am a seasoned digital marketing and media consultant/strategist with a fervent passion for blending my cultural interests with my professional expertise. I weave my deep appreciation for fashion, literature, music, and sports into my work, whether I’m leading a social media strategy, crafting a digital PR campaign, curating a sports editorial content calendar, or devising a comprehensive digital content marketing plan.

Since graduating from St. John’s University in 2011, I have built an impressive track record of elevating brands, public figures, and companies to new heights. My portfolio includes collaborations with Tommy Boy Entertainment, Ski Beatz (BluRoc Records), Fat Beats Records (Clear Soul Forces), Simone G. Parker (KRS One’s wife), Obasi Jackson (Pop Smoke’s brother), PlayStation, and Death Row Records via King Ice Jewelry, among others.

What I am most proud of is my journey as an independent consultant which inspired me to start my own digital agency, Maven by Maria, LLC. I have continuously learned, grown, and achieved success, maintaining my eagerness to learn and self-teach. My persistence in meeting tight deadlines, managing small budgets, and working without assistance reflects my dedication. My passion for my work drives me to leave a positive impact on the culture.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The most impactful thing my parents have done for me is be prime examples of what hard work and perseverance are. Nothing has ever come easy, but there’s no such thing as impossible. Stay the course.
