We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Maria Rendon a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Maria, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I hadn’t driven a car in over a decade when I moved to Boulder, Colorado, and the idea of driving again really scared me. I hadn’t driven since 2009, relying on taxis and rideshares in Bogotá, Colombia, where the traffic was intense. But moving to Boulder almost 3 years ago forced me to face that fear. Of course, imposter syndrome crept in—questions like, “Am I too old for this?” or “Have I forgotten how to drive?” came up, even though I still had a valid license!
Then, when my daughter turned 16 and wanted to learn how to drive, I realized I had to show her how to face fear head-on. With my husband’s support, I got behind the wheel, faced my doubts, and soon realized the skills hadn’t left me—I’d just let fear take up space in my energy.
That’s when I turned to my energy tools. I started clearing out the fears I’d picked up from outside—imposter syndrome is just foreign energy, not who I am. Now, I regularly remind myself to give myself permission to receive positive feedback—from myself and from others who genuinely support me. Surrounding myself with people who see and appreciate me helps keep those doubts from creeping back in.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
My journey to becoming a Spiritual Energy Healer started over two decades ago when I first began learning from a mentor. I’ve always been passionate about energy work, but moving to Boulder almost three years ago gave me the chance to deepen my skills with formal training. It was the perfect opportunity to shift from my career in strategic planning to focus fully on my calling.
As a Spiritual Energy Healer, I offer personalized sessions that include spiritual energy healings, house healing, and intuitive readings to help people clear energetic blocks and align with their true selves. While my work is alternative and complementary—not a substitute for licensed medical care—I find it incredibly fulfilling to witness the transformations my clients experience.
I’m currently expanding into online sessions to connect with more people, and developing new offerings that focus on creating positive energy in homes and workspaces. It’s exciting to see how small energy shifts can lead to profound changes in people’s lives, and I’m looking forward to sharing these tools with a wider audience.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Beginner’s Mind and Following Your Joy: Staying open and curious was a game changer. I learned to follow what sparked joy and allowed myself to explore without needing to have all the answers. My advice is to listen to your own truth—other people’s advice can be helpful, but trust what resonates with you the most. Growth happens when we follow what truly lights us up.
Surrender: One of the hardest lessons was learning to let go of old beliefs and identities that no longer served me. In my journey, I had to surrender to the process of transformation, even when it meant leaving behind the comfort of my old professional identity. Surrendering allows you to grow into a more authentic version of yourself. My advice: don’t be afraid to let parts of your old identity “die” so that new aspects can emerge.
Finding Your Tribe: Surrounding myself with people who truly understand and accept me has been invaluable. In this field, it’s easy to feel different or like you don’t quite fit in. Having a community that celebrates your unique journey makes all the difference. My advice: find those who make you feel seen and valued, and lean into those connections. They are your anchor on the path.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
My ideal client is someone who has achieved success in their material life but feels something is missing. They sense there’s a deeper layer of life beyond external accomplishments, a place where they can reconnect with their energetic self and experience true fulfillment. They are ready to explore that inner dimension and embrace their ability to self-heal and create lasting transformation from within.
As we grow older, we can lose our sense of joy and become stuck in routines that no longer excite us. My clients want to break free from this and rediscover their natural curiosity and sense of purpose. They understand that healing and growth come from within, and they are open to exploring their own energy to unlock their full potential.
Through spiritual energy healings, house healings, and intuitive readings, I help clients access their inner wisdom and activate their own self-healing abilities. Whether they are in the Boulder and Denver area or connecting with me online, my ideal clients are ready to align with their true selves, cultivate inner peace, and live a life that feels abundant and deeply meaningful.
