We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Maria Riboli a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Maria, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Without a doubt my father…he was a brilliant psychiatrist who loved his job and showed up every single day for his patients. He truly was there for them, he really cared about every single one of them…I saw him offering his services for free to people who couldn’t afford him…that is something that touched me and taught me a lot in life…
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m a storyteller and photography has given me a different tool to be able to narrate so many stories… I love capturing portraits (from families to couples to boudoir), live events and weddings…
I love working with artists, from dancers, to actors, to musicians…
I really enjoy both creating a canvas for someone to express themselves, and also being able to document a moment that will be forever frozen in time…
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
My background is in theater and film…I’m a director, an actress and an acting coach…again we go back to being a ‘storyteller’…but the arts gave me the ability to observe and be very connected with the people around me… I always tell everyone not to follow trends…but to try to tell a story…not everything will be ‘light & airy’…I personally love to feel the people I work with and to give them who they are in a picture…
Be present, listen and observe…
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
They believed in me…always…not matter how crazy my dreams were…they never said ‘no’ to me when it came to my passions…and they were always there for me…ready to catch me when I fell… But they taught me how to dream and for that I’m eternally grateful…
