Meet Maria Teran

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Maria Teran a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Maria, you’ve got such an interesting story, but before we jump into that, let’s first talk about a topic near and dear to us – generosity. We think success, happiness and wellbeing depends on authentic generosity and empathy and so we’d love to hear about how you become such a generous person – where do you think your generosity comes from?

My generosity comes from the belief that knowledge is meant to be shared. In both accounting and real estate, I meet many people who feel overwhelmed by numbers, paperwork, or financial decisions. I remember how many mentors helped me when I was starting, so now I make it my mission to give that same guidance to others. Whether I’m explaining a tax concept or helping a family navigate a home purchase, I lead with patience, transparency, and a genuine desire to make their lives easier. That’s where my generosity comes from—gratitude, empathy, and a commitment to helping people move forward with confidence.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m an Accountant and Realtor focused on helping clients feel confident and informed in their financial and real estate decisions. What I love most is simplifying complicated processes—whether it’s bookkeeping, taxes, or a home purchase—and turning them into clear, manageable steps. I’m currently expanding my accounting services for small business owners while continuing to guide families through buying and selling homes.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three qualities that shaped my journey the most were discipline, curiosity, and genuine care for the people I serve.

Discipline helped me stay focused, organized, and consistent—especially during times when I was building my career from the ground up.
Advice: Create simple daily routines and stick to them. Small habits lead to big results.

Curiosity pushed me to keep learning, expand my skills, and eventually grow from accounting into real estate.
Advice: Never stop learning. Take courses, ask questions, and stay open to new opportunities.

Caring about people has guided every part of my work. Clients remember trust, patience, and how you make them feel.
Advice: Listen deeply, communicate clearly, and always put honesty first. Strong relationships are the foundation of long-term success.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

My biggest challenge right now is managing growth. Both my accounting work and real estate business are expanding, and keeping up with the demand while maintaining high-quality, personalized service can be difficult.

To overcome this, I’m building stronger systems, using better organizational tools, and learning to delegate more. I’m also being more intentional with my schedule so I can give each client the attention they deserve. This process has helped me work smarter, stay balanced, and continue growing without losing the personal touch that defines my brand.
