Meet Mariam Molake

We were lucky to catch up with Mariam Molake recently and have shared our conversation below.

Mariam, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

If I had to trace my resilience, it’d be tempting to say it came from years of playing tabletop roleplaying games—rolling for initiative in the chaos of life—but the real turning point was becoming a mother. The day of my 20-week anatomy ultrasound was a bombshell. My life changed in that room, swallowed by a silence so loud it echoed in my bones. The tech quietly excused herself to get the doctor, and in that moment, I knew everything was about to shift.

It’s funny how control—something I used to cling to as a way to cope with childhood trauma—can slip through your fingers in an instant. From that point on, my life was scheduled for me. Every two weeks, my partner and I drove two hours to see specialists, who’d tell me terrifying things about my daughter’s condition—and present medical options if I chose to give up hope. It felt like life became a one-sided conversation, scripted by others, but the one thing I refused to relinquish was my faith. And in the middle of all the uncertainty, there was one thing that always stood out to me—angel numbers, specifically 1111. I’d see it at the exact moments when I was most afraid, reminding me that I wasn’t alone. It was like the universe—or a team of angels—was whispering, “You’re surrounded, you’re supported, keep going.” That tiny sign became a lifeline, a reminder that there was a bigger picture, even when I couldn’t see it. And those lovely kicks to my internal organs during moments of worry—courtesy of the blessing inside me—were not-so-gentle reminders that there was more to the story, even when it felt like everyone else was writing it for me.

I rolled a nat 20 in motherhood. A child with such resilience trusted me to be her mom, and from that point on, my definition of strength changed forever. The NICU became our battlefield, but also where I learned the true meaning of resilience. We weren’t alone—families all healing and growing together. Some were there for hours, while others had been there for over a year. We were all equally scared, all equally brave. Silent camaraderie tied us together as we loved fiercely through our fear.

I didn’t choose those circumstances, but I did choose how I responded. I rested when I could, thanks to an incredible team of nurses, even though anxiety often kept me awake. Those long nights—full of medical jargon, fear, and learning how to care for a stoma, how to replace a trach tube or g-button on this tiny human you love more than anything—were terrifying. You’re so scared of hurting them, but you learn anyway. You practice, you take notes, and eventually, you realize the care you’re capable of. It wasn’t about being fearless; it was about pushing through the fear for someone you love.

Those experiences reshaped me into someone who could face anything. I realized that once I learned how to do those things—things that seemed impossible at first—I could apply those same principles to any challenge life threw my way. And honestly? In most cases, the life of someone you cherish isn’t on the line, so that puts everything else into perspective. Back then, it was all about survival. Today, it’s about thriving on our unique path.

Fast forward to now: I run a business, and—most importantly—I’m a full-time dream maker. The Broom Circle Holistic Healing found me, and now we help others find magic in the mundane. Navigating neurodivergence and CPTSD has its challenges, embracing them with love and grace has given me a unique way to see the world—a perspective that allows me to create spaces where everyone feels included.

And just like in Dungeons & Dragons, life throws unexpected curveballs—like when we found out our landlord wasn’t renewing our lease with only 43 days’ notice. But pivoting is something I’m great at—whether it’s rolling with life’s challenges or rolling out a new business model. When our physical space was compromised, we didn’t wait for a solution to fall into our laps. We adapted, moving services online, connecting with our community virtually, and continuing to evolve. It wasn’t just about staying afloat; it was about thriving in the face of change.

Right now, we’re still on the hunt for an ADA-compliant space where we can grow and are accepting of the path that leads us there. What I’ve learned is that resilience invites people in. It makes them want to be part of your journey because they see the vision, they feel the energy, and they believe in the mission. We don’t just survive adversity; we transform it into something greater. And people who share that vision are welcome to join us on this adventure.

Resilience isn’t something you’re born with. It’s built over time, through the big moments—like becoming a mother in the face of overwhelming odds—and through the smaller, everyday moments—like running a business that’s constantly evolving. So, where does my resilience come from? It comes from my daughter, from those terrifying days in the NICU where I learned what real strength was. It comes from running a business that’s rooted in community and healing. And it comes from embracing every twist, every challenge, every unexpected pivot life throws my way.

Life isn’t about avoiding the hard parts. It’s about rolling with them, laughing at the absurdity, and knowing that in the end, we’re all a lot more resilient than we think.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Right now, I’m living my dream as a full-time business owner and creative. I run The Broom Circle Holistic Healing, which started as a physical tea room and spa, and has since transformed into an online sanctuary for healing and community. Our mission is simple but powerful: we create safe spaces for everyone, at every stage of their journey, to experience the magic in the mundane. Whether through holistic teas, workshops, or community gatherings, it’s all about helping people find moments of peace and empowerment in their everyday lives.
What excites me most about The Broom Circle is how it’s become a beacon for people seeking connection, not just with others but with themselves. We offer everything from herbal blends that promote relaxation to workshops on numerology, meditation, and self-care rituals. It’s the kind of space where people can let their guard down, take a breath, and feel seen.
As for what’s new, our recent pivot to an online format has been both a challenge and a huge opportunity. When we found out our physical space lease wouldn’t be renewed, we could’ve panicked—but instead, we evolved. Now, we offer virtual events, consultations, and tea deliveries, which have allowed us to reach an even broader community. We’re not just surviving; we’re thriving in new ways, and that adaptability is something I’m incredibly proud of.
On a personal level, my passion for numerology is taking center stage. I’m currently working on a book, Attitude Adjustment: Numerology for Your Stank Mood, which dives deep into how numbers can influence our attitudes and outlook on life. It’s full of practical insights, fun analogies, and a sassy loving tone that I think will resonate with people who are looking for guidance but also a little bit of humor in their self-growth journey.
I’m also continuing my work as a numerologist and relationship compatibility expert, which has been such a rewarding experience. Seeing people light up when they understand themselves or their relationships better is pure fulfillment.
At the heart of everything I do, whether it’s the tea room, the workshops, or the book, it’s all about helping people rediscover the magic that already exists in their lives. And as we continue to grow and expand, I hope to keep creating spaces where that magic feels accessible to everyone.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three key qualities and skills stand out as being the most impactful on my journey: empathy, adaptability, and self-compassion.

The first comes from an unexpected place—working in a non-standard insurance agency and sales for a decade, right out of high school. That experience gave me invaluable social skills, allowing me to connect with a wide variety of people. I would sometimes sit with clients for hours while we worked on their policies, and in those conversations, I got to hear their stories, their struggles, their triumphs. I realized that despite the surface differences, we’re all more alike than we think. Empathy became a huge part of how I connect with people, and it’s a skill I lean on heavily today, whether it’s helping someone through a tough day or recognizing an unspoken objection during a conversation. It taught me to create comfort in any space I’m in.

The second, adaptability, has been crucial. Life is unpredictable, but the ability to pivot—whether it’s in business or in the personal challenges life throws at you—can make all the difference. I’ve had to shift and evolve constantly, especially when I became a mother and later as a business owner. This flexibility keeps you grounded and helps you find opportunities even in adversity.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, is self-compassion. I used to be so hard on myself, calling myself names or feeling like I wasn’t enough when I made mistakes. But I realized I would never talk to a child that way, so why was I doing it to myself? I started reframing my inner dialogue. Instead of saying “that was so stupid” when I messed up, I’d say “that was so silly.” It sounds simple, but that shift in language made a huge impact. And even when I slipped up and called myself something mean, I gave myself grace. It wasn’t about being perfect; it was about being kind and patient with myself as I learned to treat myself better. As the tide shifted, I started giving myself permission to work on one thing at a time.

My advice for anyone early in their journey is to nurture these qualities. Be empathetic—with others, yes, but also with yourself. Allow yourself the grace to make mistakes, to grow, and to evolve. Like Billy Joel says, “You can afford to lose a day or two… Vienna waits for you.” You are always right on time, exactly where you’re meant to be. Your dreams will always be waiting for you to claim them.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Absolutely! We’re always open to collaborating with people who resonate with our mission at The Broom Circle Holistic Healing. We’re looking for partners who understand the importance of merging wellness, creativity, and community growth. Whether you specialize in holistic practices, wellness retreats, spiritual growth, or creative ventures like podcasting, video game streaming, or content creation, we’re excited to collaborate and build something transformative together. Aiding the world on its healing journey takes a few hands or so.

At The Broom Circle, we’re dedicated to nurturing creativity in all its forms. We provide spaces for individuals to showcase their talents, whether through singing, spoken word poetry, or other avenues of self-expression. We also support those pursuing creative paths like launching podcasts or building a presence in video game streaming because those are activities true to our hearts. HippieTech core, anyone? We believe creativity is a powerful force for healing, connection, and personal growth. As the world becomes more driven by technology, our goal is to inspire global connections and help others find their creative voice.

It’s not just about skills—it’s about energy. We want to collaborate with those who feel called to our mission on a soul level, who share that unspoken connection to what we’re creating. If this resonates with you and you feel that spark of inspiration, we’d love to hear from you.
