Meet Mariana Flores

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mariana Flores a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mariana, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
This is something I don’t stop working on, for me its importante to have goals, being optimistic, make time for myself, and I really do my best in finding new things I can explore or enjoy, because its pretty easy to stay in your confort zone, I also think is important, to speak to a therapist even if you think you don’t need it, talking with someone professional, always helps to have a different kind of perspective that you may have not seen. I really enjoy speeding time with family and friends and even though my family is not close to where I am at, I call them consistently and spend time with my love one and significant other.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I was born and raised in Mexico, Cabo San Lucas, but Ive been in Los Angeles, CA for over 10 years, pursing an acting career, I went to the Stella Adler Academy and after that I decided to stay in the country, since I was a little girl I was in school plays, singing and dancing classes, but it was until I moved to Los Angeles CA, that I started to fully focused on acting, and its been quite a journey, I’ve grown so much and learned so many things about myself, acting for me is everything, I just love being able o play different roles, even though you get type casted, every now and then I get to play something outside my stereotype, and I really commit and work hard on every single role to portrayed it to the best of my abilities.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The first two things that come to mind are learning a second language and my dedication to achieve things, since a was a little girl my parents put me in schools and send me to Canada, Victoria B.C for six months to learn english, I also remember I used to memorized the dialogues in the movies, because I wanted to act in them, that help me a lot with my accent and pronunciation. I was very dedicated and stubborn girl and I won’t deny it, I gave my parents a hard time every now and then, I was always a good student, but studying acting and deciding to leave my country to pursue my dream was something that shook my parents to their core, I remember the day, when I told them I wanted to leave and act, my parents try to persuade me in so many ways to stay and even study something else, after they realized they were not going to be able, they decided to support me in every way, so my family is a wonderful privilege I have, I never would’ve been able to do what I do without my family’s support, they’ve been such great troopers and been with me in my best and worst.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?
Letting me go! As parents it was very hard for them to letting their daughter move to another country and as they tried to persuade me to stay and even choose another career like I mention before, as I instead and persisted in wanting to leave and chase my dream as an actor, they didn’t have other choice but to support me, I remember my mom telling me that my dad knew me more then I knew myself, and that he had more faith in me then what I had in myself, after several years of my leaving in a LA, my mom said to me that my dad knew I wasn’t going to come back to hometown anymore, that I was going to make a living here and that I would called LA home, I was very surprised by that because I didn’t even know if I was going to like the school, or even like it here, so I guess he was right. Through years I realized of so many things, fears, insecurities, obstacles that were there and never saw until things happened to you, of course after that I worked on them and I still do, because we’ll alway have to overcome something in life, a fear a challenge, a loss, something that will test you in order to become a better version of yourself, but having my family’s support even until this day for me is priceless.
