Meet Marie Fiorin

We were lucky to catch up with Marie Fiorin recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Marie, thank you so much for making time for us today. Let’s jump right into a question so many in our community are looking for answers to – how to overcome creativity blocks, writer’s block, etc. We’d love to hear your thoughts or any advice you might have.

In my work as a fashion journalist and radio host, I’ve learned the hard way that creativity blocks don’t stand a chance against time and deadlines. When you’re about to go live on air, you can’t afford to be stuck — you have to find topics. The same goes for weekly editorial meetings: you need to be ready to pitch topics and think of different angles on the spot. That pressure is the best cure for writer’s block, because it forces you to get out of your head and into action.

That said, when time does allow, I find that stepping away helps reset my mind — a simple walk or even zoning out in front of the TV allows me to let go of the pressure and watch it turn into inspiration.. And funnily enough, some of my best ideas and story angles show up in the shower — it’s like the water rinses away the block and makes room for inspiration.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

I’m part of the brand-new Los Angeles team for Lepetitjournal.com, which has just launched its 75th edition here in LA. Lepetitjournal.com is a French-language online publication dedicated to French expatriates around the world, and the LA edition is an exciting milestone because it gives our French community here a space to stay informed, connected, and engaged with both local and international news.

What excites me most about this project is being able to spotlight the unique blend of French culture and Los Angeles energy — from arts and fashion to entrepreneurship and community stories. Having worked in fashion journalism for such a long time, I’ve always been passionate about storytelling, and this platform allows us to share perspectives that make our community feel both at home abroad and proud of their ties to France.

It’s a fresh chapter, and we’re already diving into covering cultural events, local initiatives, and inspiring individuals who make Los Angeles such a vibrant city. Being part of this launch is truly special, because it’s more than just news — it’s about creating a bridge between two worlds and offering a voice to the French-speaking community in LA.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three qualities that have been the most impactful in my journey are resilience, resourcefulness, and kindness.

Resilience has been essential — things don’t always go as planned, but being able to get back up, adapt, and keep moving forward is what makes the difference over time. For anyone starting out, I’d say don’t be discouraged by setbacks; they’re often stepping stones in disguise.

Resourcefulness — or simply “figuring it out” — has also been key. Whether it was a last-minute deadline, a technical issue, or stepping into an entirely new project, I’ve learned that you don’t need to have all the answers right away. What matters is being willing to learn, experiment, and find solutions as you go. That mindset will carry you further than waiting for perfect conditions.

And finally, kindness. This industry, like many others, is built on relationships. Leading with kindness — toward yourself and others — creates opportunities, builds trust, and fosters collaboration. My advice here is to remember that talent and ambition are important, but kindness is what makes people want to work with you again and again.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

I get overwhelmed on a weekly basis — it’s part of being creative and juggling multiple projects. What helps me most are the practices of journaling, coloring, and meditation. They’ve become my anchors, and that’s actually why I created The Manifesting Journal series — as a tool to find clarity, calm, and inspiration when life feels heavy.

Sometimes just taking ten minutes to journal out my thoughts or lose myself in coloring is enough to reset my mind and energy. Guided meditation also helps me step back, breathe, and reconnect with what really matters.

In addition to my work as a journalist, I also have a jewelry line, Leni James, which combines aesthetics and intention. These worlds — writing, manifesting and jewelry — are rooted in the same idea: creating something meaningful that helps people feel good and supported. My advice for anyone dealing with overwhelm is to find small rituals that bring you back to yourself, and to honor them consistently.
