Meet Marie Jones

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Marie Jones a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Marie, we are so happy that our community is going to have a chance to learn more about you, your story and hopefully even take in some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way. Let’s start with self-care – what do you do for self-care and has it had any impact on your effectiveness?
I first had to make self care a priority on my to do list just like my other responsibilities. I look at self care as physical, mental, spiritual and emotional maintenance. For me, that looks like regularly scheduled massages and other alternative healing methods, nail care, energy healing, spa treatments, reading, listening to music, meditation, praying, talks with myself, grounding, solo dates and creating boundaries.

This has allowed me to have a great work-life balance, appreciate the time spent with family and friends as well as alone time. When I feel good, I can operate from a place of Peace, Love and Joy! Even my Massage clients benefit from the healing they receive from a practitioner rooted in this.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Im a Mother, Wife, Daughter, Sister, Friend, Empath, Self-Care Advocate, a Healer and self proclaimed Foodie.

I am also the owner of Your Massage Fix, llc, a private Massage Therapy and Wellness practice in Oak Park, IL. I have the pleasure of providing customized massage therapy treatments for clients who are experiencing chronic pain issues, those looking for a deep relaxation experience and for those who prioritize massage as part of their wellness regime.

I’ve been practicing for about 17 years and had this practice for almost 3 yrs. I’ve taught massage continuing education as well as co-owned a company that facilitated corporate massage programs for many companies throughout Chicagoland.

My current plans include creating Self-Care workshops/retreats for women. I hope to serve as an extension or support for those who find it difficult to take a break or need resources that promote Self-Care.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, I can tell you that to survive in this industry, you need to possess confidence (if you don’t believe in you, no one else will), perseverance( the journey won’t be easy but the outcome will be worth it) and continuing your education (you do yourself and your clients a favor when you can blend different modalities together).

I advise others to not get stuck in a “hustle only” mindset. That will cause you to overwork, have burnout and not enjoy life! You can’t pour from an empty cup! Regularly receive the same services you provide to others.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
It’s hard to narrow it down to just one. My mom’s unwavering support in my career and life has always played a big role in the decisions I make. My ex business partner and friend, Rochelle Turner has been my biggest mentor and advocate in the massage industry. She saw my potential and helped me to see it too. My son Nick, who has intellectual disabilities has always been the motivating force behind my hard work and dedication. Looking at the world through his eyes is very humbling. My husband has been with me throughout my entire career so he’s seen it all and supported me through it all. My success wouldn’t be possible without them and God honestly!
